This problem also relates to this thread:
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=80455

The reason why i posted a new thread is because now i am unsure what the problem might be.... i have tried so many different things to no avail please help =/

    From the beginning:

I first started getting BSOD's about 1 month after i built brand new PC. I ignored them at
first as they only happened every 3-4 days... then they started happening more frequently.

So finally i decided that i might aswell do a fresh install of windows(hopefully sort out
the problem.) Everything seemed fine until that night when i got another crash... i was a bit
frustrated. So, i installed windows debugger and found that it was a dll file from my sound
card that caused it. I uninstalled the sound card drivers and for a whole day i didnt get
another crash... i thought i had found the problem as b4 i was getting 3-4 crashes a day.
After the next crash i debugged that to find it was my Video card drivers causing it
nv4_disp.dll. So i uninstalled those and reverted back to the original drivers that came with
the card.... still crashed... I then installed driver cleaner pro to remove the old drivers
first(sound card drivers included) and reinstalled the new drivers... at this point everything
seemed fine ... no crashes i thought great! maybe it was just windows leaving fragments of the
    old drivers.

Then i got another crash a couple of days later... nv4_disp.dll again =/. I almost gave up at
this point.. but decided to run memtest86+, after 8 hours of memtest no errors were found. I
then just left my pc in windows the next day and came back to check when it crashed next....

Upon investigation of the next crash "this time" the cause was SiWinAcc.sys, which seems to be
something to do with the sata drivers and has crashed 3 times since then with the same cause.
I have installed HddHealth and that says everythings fine...

One thing i can think of is that my floopy drive seemed a bit odd... when loading the sata
drivers during windows install it needed me to tell it several times that the drivers were there
because it kept saying nothing was....

Apart from this i am completely stuck as to where i should go next...
Does anyone have any ideas of how i can solve this unusual problem?

thank you for any help you can give.

That actually sheds a bit of light onto why so many crashes even after changing/installing new drivers.

try this app to check the SMART status of your HD ( kinda sounds if you have a faulting one ) Everest click Storage > Smart and post a pic of the results.... but anything that doesnt say Passed or OK means you have a potential failure.

do you have another HD to use and install XP onto... would narrow down a HD issue?

Dependent on what the maker of your drive is ( Maxtor, Western Digital etc ), they also will most likely have a HD diagnostics prog which would be advisable to run, most can be found in this section http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads8.html

well that looks fine but keep an eye on it,

My best advice and one route I would take if I was getting the same is to start from scratch with installing the OS, but I would barebones the PC, if the motherboard has onboard items like sound network etc only use that, use only 1 HD is you use multiples, 1 DVD/CD/RW... limit the hardware.

Before starting this I would check if you have not already for a Bios update and any updates for the SATA drivers.

then Clean install the OS ( even down to deleting the partition and creating new and FULL NTFS format.. yeah i know ist longer but its better ), chipset drivers, GFX drivers and then all the other drivers, security apps and update the OS, see if its stable, if so them start adding hardware components and test over a day for each for stability etc

Check your Windows CD for scratches ( did it have any issues on any install like missing files etc )

What type of PSU do you have? If the PSU doesn't supply the proper voltages to the SATA drive, it inadvertantly could corrupt drivers (as well as any other random drivers that are running in the background) and lead to a BSOD. This is also the case with recent video cards as well. Find a free program that checks voltages (there are a lot) and see what your voltages are registering.

ye that was my next step.... i have recently (last 5 days) done a fresh install... the only thing i can think that might be causing the problems is my floppy drive not copying over the sata driver files correctly as it had trouble reading it....

The PSU is a 600W Arctic, i paid £80 for it..... maybe its faulty?

Thx for help guys ^_^. im going to reinstall windows using my brothers computer as his floppy drive is all good. i'll get back to you with how it goes =-)

ok, i haven't quite yet reinstalled XP on the machine....

However, now on the machine when i go into a game after a few mins it will crash to desktop and the computer will start beeping until i get rid of the error msg... then after that if i try to open the game again the computer will keep beeping (internal speakers btw)....

Could this be a sign that there is a serious problem here?

i thought i would update you guys on my progress...

I reinstalled windows with my bros machine bcoz his floppy drive is all good.

Everything was fine, so i installed all the drivers which installed flawlessly.

I then played my fav game for about 3 and a half hrs until i got a crash... after debugging it i found it was caused by ks.sys....

Bah i was really hoping that this might have been the end of my problems but now im more lost.... if its not 1 thing causing it its another ... wtf is going on with my machine =-(

If you can use another HD in your PC, make sure that its formatted and a clean install is used, again plain install of OS and updates, chipset drivers plus security apps only....

do you have any shorts on the motherboard against case.. check the standoffs.

If you can try another PSU do so, as you mentioned it could have variable power fluctuations and as we are seeing random file errors.

this is really a hard one to trouble shoot over the net, I like I guess others would have to be hands on to see whats happening.

I thinks its bad RAM. Run memory diagnostics or remove one RAM stick, reboot, run for awhile. If it crashes, try the other stick. You're getting multiple "crash files" which to me implies RAM.
Let us know how you make out.

thanks for the help guys heres an update so far:

I have taken out the corsair memory(that was probably damaged or something) and replaced it with an old simm 512MB one... so far i have had no crashes ...ok its only been 3 hrs but its looking good so far.

One thing i did notice however was:

The memory timings on the corsair memory were : 8 3 3 3T, However on my brothers pc they are 7 3 3 3... we both bought the same model of ram from the same store at the same time..... so i find this kind of strange....

Furthermore, the ram i replaced the corsair with is registering the exact same timings of 8 3 3 3T... even tho it was alot cheaper and more outdated... i find this strange and do not understand why it is doing this.

P.S. The timings are set to optimal NOT "user defined", they have also changed with a diff ram stick (which was bad however).

Anyway, i hope that this has solved the problem... hopefully corsair will replace the ram as its still under warrenty.
