MAJOR problem with partitions!

While trying to create a new partition, and resize an old one, late at night with PartitionMagic, I accidentally deleted the partition I wanted to keep!!

Is there anyway to restore this partition or retrieve the files that used to be on it? I have not done anything to the drive since the partitions were changed, so no new data has been written to it. The part that is killing me is that it held all of the pics from my digital camera!

    Thanks all!

    To undelete a partition

1 On the disk map or the partition list, select the unallocated space to be searched.
    2 Click Partition > Undelete.

All primary and logical partitions that can be undeleted are displayed in the list box of the Undelete dialog box.
If no partitions are found within the unallocated space or none can be undeleted, a message appears indicating that no partitions can be undeleted.

3 In the list box, select the partitions you want to undelete.
    4 Click OK.

    Tips

    · You can undelete a partition only if no other operations are pending on the unallocated space selected. If any operations are pending, the Undelete icon and menu option will be dimmed (unavailable).

    · While it is possible to undelete more than one partition at once, PowerQuest recommends that you undelete partitions one at a time, beginning with the partition that you want most. Doing so helps ensure the integrity of the data within the partition.

    · All partitions that can be undeleted may not be listed at the same time. For example, if your hard disk had three primary partitions and all three were deleted, you would only see the first partition listed the first time you used the Undelete feature. However, after you apply the Undelete operation on the first (active) partition, you can run the Undelete feature again and the remaining two partitions will be listed.

Thank for the quick response - however when I try that, I get a "No Partitions can be undeleted message".

I never physically selected "Delete partition", I believe it happened when I was trying to resize the new partition, and it took over the area previously held by the old partition.

    Anything else I could try?

Sorry, you're SOL. Once the partition space has been touched, the old info is gone.

Dude, don't reply to stuff if you don't know what you are doing. It *is* recoverable, and I have just recovered my data from it. I used some of the data recovery software off of Hiren BootCD, and it worked like a charm.

Just because the partition table has been modified doesn't mean that the data is gone, its just trickier to get to, and I was looking for some guidance on how to do it.

Hope you haven't been giving wrong advice to other people too...

Thanks! Your post led me to a link (eventually) that helped me keep my job.....Though, I should say, your link didn't help me, but reminded me of a particular program that I used a few years ago. Need to redownload this and put it on my recovery software cd. :)

    Anyway, testdisk:

is quite a powerful tool that recovers deleted partitions. Their (I should say his) tech support is very good. Usually will get a reply within an hour.

Cool, haven't tried that one, but it looks nice - and free. Sorry I didn't include the link for Hiren's its: http://thanki.cjb.net
