I hate fakers! Just got an e-mail in my junk folder purporting to be a heads-up that someone had responded to a question I posted several weeks ago.

It just didn't look or sound quite right, even though it quoted my thread exactly, so I decided to go directly to Majorgeeks first and of course, no one had responded to the thread.

I resent that sincere people who post online can have info lifted and potentially hacked by jerks. But, that is the other side of the coin of internet sharing of information.

Is this all some people have to do with their time?

The responses are automatic if you have that enabled in your profile. I don't think anyone could "impersonate" that. But what was the thread and do you still have the email?

Hi...it could also be that it was a spammer who pulled your thread up and posted a reply. If that was the case, the response was probably reported and one of us deleted it prior to you checking. As TimW stated, if you are subscribed to your own thread so that you'll get an email each time there is a response, you would have still received the notification even though the post had been deleted.

I emptied the e-mail so it's gone, and the thread was 'How to download missing wzcsapi.dll w/o internet 'on 12/8. When I checked on the thread it had no comments.

I do remember that as I scrolled down the e-mail it had a few other blue underlined web sites and some tag words such as, women, men, shoes. None of it looked right.
