:) OK, I admit I'm perplexed over the "pick" choices on Majorgeeks.com:

I have Windows 7 HP X64. I want the best performance I can get from the drivers I install.

I am concerned that this offering can really cause a heart-burn of frustration, if I'm not prepared. OR, am I worried over nothing?

Which offering would give my Win 7 X64 the best advantage: Components or Codecs or BOTH? What are the considerations I need to know?

Thanks for your input. Ignorance is bliss and I'm mighty happy!

    Hi

The "majorgeeks pick" choices cover all OS's so not just Windows 7 aimed in the choices.

If you are after best performance of drivers, then the best advice is never to use a driver update application but to only and only get your drivers from the original manufacturer of your hardware and only update when they update drivers, as they are tailors to the hardware they make.

To be perfectly honest the only drivers I really update and really do need updating are Graphics card and Networking and Networking at a push, as why update something that is working fine already.

Goes with BIOS updates also, as they are in the main to fix issues with previous versions of the BIOS and/or various hardware so always worth looking at the changelog to a BIOS update and thing will it fix an issue I'm having, if not then no need to update.

Need to expand on this question as it covers a multitude of possibilities, Components covers pretty much all hardware and CODECs only covers media?

CODEC packs are only worth installing (I have used the Shark007 ones with no issue and respect his work greatly in this area) but only to fix an issue if you have media that will not play be it audio or video. If you don't have these issues then its not worth installing.

Question I would ask of you is, is your PC running ok for the hardware you have installed, is your Windows 7 x64 at SP1 and fully updated?

What hardware do you have installed?
What do you use your PC for? (has a bearing on performance needed as specific software may need higher end hardware)

    DavidGP (Grand Pooh-Bah)! Ha!

Thank you for your cogent reply. I am up-to-date on all Win 7 X64 SP-1 updates. I am not having specific problems, per se; However, my 1.6 GHz clock is limiting...HA!

I simply wanted to be current with the offerings, and since the "pick" was for Win 7 X64, I thought it would be advantageous for the computer. If I don't need it, then I won't use it.

Again, thanks for the rapid and cogent response. It is appreciated!
