Hey all, since you are all basically my online geek family I thought I would share with you that I am finally going to make a career move. I'm going to be leaving my beloved Ironworking career and am currently enrolled at Parkland Community Junior College for Network Administration. In the next 2 to 3 years I will be studying and getting my various certs and learning more about systems and networks. I am asking for your support intellectually and prayerfully as this is a huge move for me and one being done at a later stage of my life (I'll be 44 in a week or so). If you have any advice or any helpful sites for me to study please feel free to use this thread to suggest or point me in the right direction. I am also going to be more pro-active in my web development portion of my life and attempt to get some solid contracts going for web design. If anyone happens to need a contractor in this area please feel free to contact me privately. Thanks again for always being here for me and for all the help that you have been in the past. There are truly some blessed and wonderful people here on MG!

In the words of a lady who went back to school at the age of 87, "I have never regretted anything I have done...only things I didn't do." Good on you Wraith....you sound to have determination and it is that positive quality that will ensure you suceed. And you got prayers too buddy ;)

The very best of luck to you, hope everything works out well for you! I don't know about you but I love to learn and develop skills, and I'm sure that you'll make good of your choice.

Having been running my web development company for well over a year now, coming up to two now, (the toughest time for any business), we're only just starting to get the organisational side together to do bigger jobs and real contract work. It's very rewarding to know you're being recognised, and all that hard work in marketing and getting yourself known is paying off! Now all we need to do is make our internal workings of our company as slick and oiled as any other big company to really make the time worth it.

Again, good luck and make sure we stay informed! I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we're rootin for ya! :)

Thanks Chris, that means a lot to me and you too Lev. I am hoping that some people will have some software I may be needing later on to help keep my costs down. I'm not really certain what I will need as of yet but I will be certain to let you all know if I need anything. Again thanks once again.

    Hi Jack,

(No, I'm not stealing your thread. :D)

I can't help much with advise on sites or software, but you've got my prayers and best wishes for success. It's not true that you can't teach an old dog new tricks, Generally, the older students are more focused and more devoted to their studies, which helps offset the extra duties their lives generally have. You'll do well.

Good luck on the new career path Jack, just changed career paths myself after 16yrs in same industry, just about got my head back into learning mode again, cannot believe how tired i've felt after having to assimilate loads of info, but I'm loving it.

Once you know what sorts of software you need I have no doubt the merry band of geeks can find a free or cheap solution for you ;)
