I just wanted to be 100% sure about this.

Soon i will be making some major hadware changes:

    Processor from 2400 to 3200
    Video card 9800Pro to 6800

I am not really worried about the video card but, the processor is what worries me.

I have heard that changing out the processor requires a format, and reinstall. I dont know how accurate that is.

    Anyone have any comments?

I've changed many MANY processors, and never had to format/re-install anything. Never had to re-activate XP either.

The only time you may run into problems with a hardware change is if you forgot to uninstall the old video drivers when going from nvidia to ati or if your changing your motherboard. Unless it's using the same exact chipset windows will not load because it's trying to load teh drivers for a via chipset if you have an nvidia chipset or vice versa and so forth.

Windows Doesent care what processor ya use.

Make sure multiplier and cpu fsb is set correctly in Bios so you run at correct speed, if you dont your processor will be recognized by bios incorrectly.
Some mobo's default setting will incorrectly Identify CPU, and thus run slow and underclock them.
some mobo's will auto detect CPU and stock speeds.

    Windows doesent care!
The only time cpu would effect windows is if it was overclocked so the system wasnt stable then you may not boot /freeze/ or be able to load windows
    Underclocked probably wouldnt matter.

LOL it was a hard decision, but since i could get new technologly over old technologly, and Great Performance over just less then great performance, for only an extra 50 dollars i had to jump on it! :)

I have used both brands of cards over the years, and have no favorite really....Also had no problems with eather brand...Hope i have some good times with this card! In fact i know i will have some good times!!! :p :p :p
