    Hey

like an FTP server? unless there is some sort of software thatll allow you to make one on xp home that i dont know about, youll need a server OS. ive made FTP servers on windows server, but no tohers. i think you could probably download a linux os thatll allow you to make one.

or if theyre on the network you can just share a file. if thats what you wanted to do just post back and someone will help with that.

You can run ftp software on xp home. Doesn't have to be a server os, just have to find an ftp server software.

Try Bulletproof FTP. Runs well on XP Home, inexpensive, secure logins, and basically "bulletproof". You will have to use settings in your wireless router to forward your server ports to the machine running the FTP, to keep the traffic from slowing down the network.

It will work on a wireless hookup, but I would suggest hard-wiring it if you want to run it 24/7.

No the reason you have to port forward is so your router knows where to send the ftp server, has nothing to do with wireless on that matter, but yes you should hardwire so you can leave your server up.

I stand corrected, Colemanguy :) Yes, the router needs to know where to send the traffic. Pretty straight-forward, under a Linksys router for example, it's under "Applications and Gaming".

I'm used to Cisco systems that sometimes putz around for a few, trying every port first, when an inquiry is not directed.

Ok i have been trying the BulletProof FTP software and i can only connect if i use the 192.168... ip address. I have port forwarded the 21 port on the wireless router and i tried to connect to my regular ip address 67...... but it wont connect.

    Anyone got any ideas??

    My wireless router is a D-Link DI-634M.

    Thanks.

To use more than one computer on the same DSL modem, you have to have a router to share the commection. Your D-Link router has four hardwire ports, so it should work fine if you have one spare open jack. You use the port forwarding to direct the ftp traffic to the server.

ok so this is where im at:

i have download and installed both the client and server for the bulletproof ftp. I setup a username and password so that i can access the server and tried to connect using my actual ip address 67.70..... and it wont connect. I tried portforwarding on the wireless router to my computers ip address 192.168.... using port 21 and still not working. This is a computer that is ethernet cable connected to the wireless router. I even went on my dsl modem and port forwarded the 21 port and still not working.

I can connect with another computer using its ip address 192.168... number.

If anyone has any ideas of how to get this to work please help. I have been having problems with ventrilo server also dont know if this helps at all.

Ftp may also require port 20 forwarded as well, 20 is a ftp data or something 21 is a control port. Might be port blocking on your isp end, or might be trouble with your router not port forwarding, post your router model and we can check on some things.

Check your os' firewall, you may have to give BPFTP access.
