    Hi there,
I recently had some problems with my computer, at first pop-ups but later on error messages with some random file from C:\Windows\system32\lakenade.dll or something along those lines every time any program tried to run. So I came to this site, looked at the Read and Run post, and followed the directions. At the moment, I don't see any more problems, but I'm not sure if there might be anything else still lurking in my system. If you guys have some extra time, could you possibly look through my attached logs and see if everything's ok? I would appreciate it very much.
    Thank you,
    Tom

You have two items "lurking" in your system from back in July.

Use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\sehameyi.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\lakenade.dll

Run this: Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\MGlogs.zip

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hey TimW,
I got rid of those 2 files, ran the Disable/Remove Windows Messenger, and now everything seems to be running just fine. Thank you so much for helping me out. Here's the MGLogs.
    Thanks again!

Good to know. Now let's just do some final clean up.

I strongly advise you to cleanup your Desktop. Remove everything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and definitely do not use it for long term storage. You need to keep ComboFix.exe here for now as we need it, but we will be removing it when we are finished with your cleanup. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here like you are doing.

Use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\Windows Live Toolbar ???? ??.job
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\ISP signup reminder 1.job

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Hi Tim,
I cleared my desktop of most of the shortcuts, cleaned everything up, disabled the re-enabled the system restore, etc. Everything seems to be working just fine now. Thanks again for all your help!
