    Hi aarond!

I see you decided to fix a second computer but kept going in the first thread. You need to repost the logs for your second computer in this thread. Be sure when you log on to Majorgeeks to click on the remember me button. Also, sometimes the logs are blocked by the cache in the browser being full. Please try to repost all the logs into the next two posts. If you have trouble uploading the files, you can either clear the cache or try a different browser. Also, when you post this new set of logs, please be sure to describe any problems you might be having with the desktop.

    Thanks.

    Hi aarond!
I posted to you in the other thread. Yes, please repost the new logs for the desktop in that other thread.

No. But I can flip between threads for now.

Just a few things to start:

    1) We are finished with CounterSpy now. Please go to add/remove programs and uninstall:

    - Sunbelt CounterSpy

Then delete the below folders which may be left behind by the uninstall:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sunbelt Software
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sunbelt Software
    C:\Program Files\Sunbelt Software

    2) When you finish checking add/remove problems, please reboot and install Java Runtime Environment vs. 6.3

    3) If you do not use Windows Messenger (not to be confused with MSN Messenger!!) I would like you to run Disable/Remove Windows Messenger

    4) Now scan with HijackThis and check the boxes for the following entries:
( Make sure ALL browser windows are closed when you click FIX )

    5) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

    6) Please run fresh logs for ShowNew, GetRunKeys and HijackThis and post them to this new thread.
    • ShowNew Log (newfiles.txt)
    • GetRunKey Log (runkeys.txt)
    • HijackThis Log

Thanks I will start working on this now. the main problem im having withe the desk top is that it cuts on and off by itself, usually in the middle of the night.. it can be completely powed down, but will boot up on its own.

Also, i tried to download Sun Java lastnight, but i get an error message saying that the admistrator has settings preventing this, which i do not understand because i am the admistrator and no othe accounts have admin privilages.

    Hi aarond,
I've had a request that you track down what's causing your computer to boot up on its own and to patent it, because the thought of having a computer that can power itself up and play music in the morning is appealing.

Is your computer in standby mode or completely shut down with the off switch turned off when it boots itself back up?

I do not see either an antivirus program or a two-way firewall installed on your computer. Please see the How to Protect Yourself from Malware thread and choose one antivirus program and one firewall. I use AVG free and ZoneAlarm together and they don't conflict. I think most of the other combinations there are also compatible.

The logs you had posted back in message # 13 did not show any malware. However Abri did mention that you need to get your PC properly protected in her last message and you need to do that if you have not done so.
