    Hello,

    I required some assistance with removal malware. I started receiving web reputation alerts from Trend Office scan and shortly after that I started seeing a few tool bars in IE. Before seeking help here, I ran various tools in attempt to remove the malware. I seem to have succeeded for the most part, but it seems like there something still lingering since MalwareBytes will not run/update.

    Attached are the malware removal logs per the instructions from the guide. MalewareBytes will not scan nor will it update.

    http://imageshack.us/a/img841/7292/thisisujrt.gif Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Please save the work in your browsers before proceeding.
    • Double-click JRT.exe to run (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Please attach JRT.txt to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    Thank you for the reply.

    I uninstalled SweetPacks. I ran RogueKiller and I do not see the four detections as you mentioned. Attached is the RogueKiller log. Shall I proceed with Hitman?

    Yes please, continue with all of the other instructions too. :)

    I am unable to run HitMan because I will be violating the EULA agreement. Can I use another tool instead?

    You mean because you have run the tool before, and the trial period has expired? :confused

    Do it this way instead then, delete these folders:
    • C:\Users\jim.jordan\AppData\Roaming\MCommon
    • C:\Users\jim.jordan\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Extensions

    Then continue on with the other steps.

    Unfortunately, Domain membership would prevent me from running it.

    Attached are the JRT and MGTools logs.

    Thanks for your help thus far.

    The system appears to be fine, however I attempted to run MalewareBytes to see if I could get it to update/scan and it still refuses to do either. Does this seem to be a sign of a lingering threat?

    Uninstall Malware Bytes by using Revo Uninstaller.

    Now reboot the machine and attempt to reinstall the latest version of Malware Bytes.

    If you still get errors let me know, I may be able to help or you may have to go to the software forum for further assistance.

    I uninstalled with Revo and I still receive the same behavior. I do NOT receive any error message. The MB update window flashes quickly and then disappears. Choosing to scan produces the same behavior, the main MB window appears and then disappears after pressing the scan button.

    I may have to send you off to the software forum, one more thing for you to run though.

    Download OTL to your desktop.

    • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • Vista and Windows 7 users Right-click OTL and choose Run as Administrator)
    • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
    • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
    • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

    When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

    Attach both of these logs into your next reply.

    We need to run an OTL Fix

    • Right-click OTL.exe And select " Run as administrator " to run it. If Windows UAC prompts you, please allow it.
    • Copy and Paste the following code into the textbox. Do not include the word Code

    Code:
    :otl
    @Alternate Data Stream - 239 bytes -> C:\ProgramData\Temp:0574215C
    @Alternate Data Stream - 219 bytes -> C:\ProgramData\Temp:E2874B02
    @Alternate Data Stream - 150 bytes -> C:\ProgramData\Temp:635FFD7D
    @Alternate Data Stream - 146 bytes -> C:\ProgramData\Temp:1FB1CEE3
    @Alternate Data Stream - 142 bytes -> C:\ProgramData\Temp:07BB519E
    @Alternate Data Stream - 141 bytes -> C:\ProgramData\Temp:D95ACC7D
    @Alternate Data Stream - 122 bytes -> C:\ProgramData\Temp:9638A27E

    :commands
    [EMPTYTEMP]
    [RESETHOSTS]
    [REBOOT]
    • Then click the Run Fix button at the top.
    • Click Image.
    • OTL may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot. ATTACH that report in your next reply.

    Still not working? Then you are definately going to have to post about this in the software forum. :)

    You will have to post about this in the Malware Bytes forum. That would be the best suggestion I can make. Does everything else update ok?

    Excellent. :)

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Press and hold the Windows key http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/Windows_Logo_key.gif and then press the letter R on your keyboard. This opens the Run dialog box.
      • Copy and paste the below into the Run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    4. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    5. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove them, you can delete these files now.
    8. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    9. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
