Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I definitely have some sort of malware or virus on my system. Since the time of infection, last week, I have been experiencing the following:

    1. Strange popups in almost every site I visit. They are typically related the type of site or product but definitely not part of the site. See attached screen captures. It is the worst on shopping sites but it even happens here on the majorgeeks.com site.

    2. I also get browser redirections. One repetitive one that happens goes to like a fake google and another that fakes sites like homedepot.com.

    3. I have also noticed when I am on a site and trying to browse to another page, it hangs for a long time and the status bar displays some strange site before it goes to the next page.

I have read and performed all actions in "READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide (incl. spyware, virus, trojan, hijacker)" and all of its related posts. I have also read and performed all actiosn in "Vista & Windows 7 Malware Removal/Cleaning Procedure" and it's realted posts.

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXTlog
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    You're welcome.
I suspect that your problems are with Chrome itself. You need to either work thru the Settings and remove the junk search engines and extensions that may have been added or simply just uninstall it and reinstall a fresh copy.

Thanks so much for your help with this!

I uninstalled and re-installed chrome and the issues appear to have been resolved.

As I use this system over the next few days, if I run into any remaining issues, do I re-post to this thread or start a new one?

    You're welcome.
If you have new problems ( not the same issues ), it would require a new thread and new logs.

Same problems with only a couple days of elapsed time, same thread.

After a week or so even with the same exact problems, it would require all new logs. Would not care if it were the same or new thread at this point, but possibly better to be new. So much can change on a PC in even a few days depending on how much it is used and by how many people.

We sometimes have users posting that they still have problems and the problems are totally new. Meaning they managed to download more infections on the PC before we even finished the first fixes. ;)
