First post to the board and I could not feel worse that it would be on these terms. Still, I'm hoping that someone can help me.

My problems started about a two months ago and I do believe that I have exhausted all of my options up to just going through and formatting my computer. I cannot recall what it was that I was doing just prior to these problems beginning, I just remember the computer working one day and attempting to view a Word document the next and being unable to open it's parent folder without explorer.exe crashing. With that, the major and outlying problem is that explorer will max out the memory and shut itself down and at times not even re-initiate. As of late, my whole system has just began to slow down all together and I have began to get errors pertaining to 0xbadd11 (believe that was it) write problems.

I am going to go ahead and attach the logs obtained through the "Windows XP Cleaning Procedure" write-up with fingers crossed that I am doing this correctly. I would appreciate any help that I can get. Thanks everyone.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Where did you get MGtools from? Or should I say when? You are way out of date! It probably does not matted anyway at this point since your issues are not due to malware. I will give you a couple of things to do but these may not help.

Click Start, Run and enter sfc /scannow and click OK. Note there is a space after the sfc but not after the /. This will run System File Checker to look for missing or corrupted system files. It may ask for your Windows CD if it needs it to replace files. Have the disk ready.

Now run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgssie.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcWzrd] ALCWZRD.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_06\bin\jusched.exe"
    O18 - Protocol: linkscanner - {F274614C-63F8-47D5-A4D1-FBDDE494F8D1} - C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgpp.dll (file missing)
    O23 - Service: LiveUpdate - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\LIVEUP~1\LUCOMS~1.EXE (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now let's clean up from Norton. Please run this: Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT) reboot and then run it again.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Chaslang,

Honestly, things seem to be working a whole lot better so far already! Slightly confused as to what the problem was if there was no malware though! As far as where I got the MGtools, for whatever reason I could not download it from this site and just found the first site that would allow me to download it. lol

At any rate, here is that file you requested. Thanks for your help!

But what site was that? And why couldn't you download it from here? Did you click the Remember me box when you logged in?

You are still using the old version now but your logs are still clean anyway.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. You can uninstall SUPERAntispyware now
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop & renamed it like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\cf" /u
        • Notes: The space between the cf" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\cf folder from combofix.
    3. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    4. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Honestly, I do not remember what site I got it from. I did bounce it off of Trend Secure (believe this is TrendMicro's site?) and 2.0.2 is what is hosted on there. Glad to hear things are clean either way though.

There was no link, is there something else that I need to be doing here??

That is HijackThis and that is not what I'm referring to. I speaking of the logs from GetRunKey.bat and ShowNew.bat which show you are using an outdated version of MGtools.

Sorry about that! The bottom of my message was chopped off. Here is the link:
