    When computer boots I get this error: "Error loading C:\WINDOWS\System32\stepelsy.dll. The specified module could not be found."

    Ran R&R; logs attached.

    When running Combofix, I got this error: "Cannot export RegRuns00: Error writing the file. There may be a disk or file system error." It did finish and generate a log.

    Computer is off the net and will remain so until I can install AV but I will await your advice before doing anything else.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down and across in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    RenV::
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Album Starter Edition\3.0\Apps\apdproxy .exe
    C:\Program Files\AIM\aim .exe
    C:\Program Files\Apoint\Apoint .exe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch .exe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\isuspm                .exe
    C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Photo Album 6\MediaDetect .exe
    C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\DVDLauncher .exe
    C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2 .exe
    C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\ifrmewrk .exe
    C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper .exe
    C:\Program Files\McAfee\SpamKiller\MSKDetct .exe
    C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs .exe
    C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\Musicmatch Jukebox\mimboot .exe
    C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask                                                                .exe
    C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask           .exe
    C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay .exe
    C:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehtray .exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd .exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers .exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray .exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl .exe

    File::
    c:\windows\system32\7AFFCACFD3.sys
    c:\windows\system32\aphbrowo.tmp

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    I got the same error when running ComboFix as before - "Cannot export RegRuns00..... Again, it finished and generated a log. When it rebooted, I got the stepelsy.dll error again.

    When running GetLogs.bat, I got this error - "Cannot export C"\MGTools\temp\rkey05.txt. Error writing the file. There may be a disk or file system error."

    Why do you still not have any AV program installed? You can download to a different computer and transfer via cd. I suggest you do so now.

    It appears as though a few things did not get fixed, so we will try it again.

    First I would suggest you remove this desktop component:
    O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - http://links.pictures.aol.com/pic?id=c980c*10W3Mqjv1iSjrMXZqRKxTxosusWmP1v4xQp5Fd3Ig=&size=m

    Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    * Extract+ avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * -Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.
    -
    Now run Ccleaner.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\Avenger.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    I hadn't installed anything because I was waiting to get through this process. I installed Comodo AV.

    I couldn't get this page to load. Tried with Firefox and IE.

    I got a success message after running fixME.reg

    I'm still getting the stepelsy.dll message on reboot.

    Thanks for your help and patience.

    You need to right click the desktop / properties / desktop / web / remove anything there ///do not have any thing checked. ( You can leave My Current Home Page unchecked...but remove anything else).

    Now disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    You need to tell me what happens, as we have done this before but it is not being removed.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Done - one entry deleted

    When I opened analyse.exe and clicked system scan, it returned a long list of entries. I checked only the one referenced. When I clicked fix, I got this popup - "Fix 1 selected item? This will permanently delete and/or repair what you selected." I clicked yes and the list disappeared. There was no success message or response. I clicked x to exit.

    I got this message while running getlogs.bat - "Cannot export C:\MGTools\temp\rkey05.txt. Error writing the file. There may be a disk or file system error."

    Attached

    Again, I appreciate your patience and help with this.

    I'm still getting the stepelsy.dll error when I boot.

    Also, I re-ran analyse.exe and the stepelsy entry is still there. I didn't fix, just scanned. I'll wait for further instruction.

    I really do appreciate the patience and effort you're putting in here.

    Then let's try this one more time:

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now re-run combofix and attach that log.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

  11. Greywood1862

    Greywood1862 Private First Class

    I did this and got the same result as before. I scanned it a second time and the entry is still there.

    I got this success message - "Information in C:\Documents and Settings\Kirby Wells\Desktop\fixME.reg has been successfully entered into the registry."

    When I try to run combofix, I get an error message - "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I tried to download it again but got this message - "ComboFix.exe The above file name is invalid.", so I saved it as Combo.exe. This seemed to work but I then got the same permissions error when I tried to run it. I tried to delete ComboFix.exe (original copy) but got a 'access denied' error message. I was able to delete Combo.exe (second copy).

    I couldn't attach ComboFix logs as it never ran. MGTools logs attached.

    I tried and this didn't work either. It stalled while updating virus signatures. I haven't shut it down but it's been sitting here for about 20 minutes.

    It seems to be working now, although very slowly. Don't know if this is normal or not. I'll post logs when it's done.

    BitDefender logs attached.
    It didn't give me the option to save as a txt file, only an html file, so I saved it and then changed to a txt file. Hope this works.

    Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop (yes, overwrite the previous file of the same name). Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip log.

    Yes that worked. :)

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners.They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Well, how rude of it. You can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that were created.
