    Sir/Madam,

Thanks in advance for your advice.

After I had installed Windows XP service 3 via the Microsft website, I found that computer is very slow. I un-installed the service pack 3 using the add/delete software function in control panel. Then I notice that there was an icon, consists of a red circle with a white "X" at the lower right corner of the screen next to the time. I right-clicked it and it says I had exceeded the profile volume. I then did a scan using Norton 360 version 3 ( I regularly check for updates) but found nothing. I then use Internet Explorer to do some research on the web and noticed that the computer was extremely slow (it tooks about 3minutes + to load the Major Geeks website). Having read the Read Me First thread, I proceed to do all scans as instructed.
Nothing was found and the mentioned icon disappeared but still experience some problems and would apprecaite some help.
During scan using ComboFix, the computer restarted twice by itself and when I restarted, it went into configuration with blue background rather than starting Windows. The message I've got was that the computer could not recognise the CD player. I restarted the computer manually by pressing F8 and got it to launch Windows XP normally, however, Combofix has completed its job and I've got the log. No other unusual events was observed during the scans.
I re-installed Norton 360 and proceed to check for updates and it takes so long that it stopped by itself. Now when I switch on my computer, I still have to press F8 in order to get the computer to launch Windows normally.
Attached are the logs for you examination.
    Regards,
    Jonathan

Malware in my computer Part 2 with logs

    Sir/Madam,

    Please find the attached logs.

I am not sure if this is related, but when I obtained ComboFix from bleepingcomputer.com; an advertisement appeared at the top of the page and it mentioned "Anti-spyware download" with the exact icon I mentioned in part 1 of this thread.

    Thanks again,
    Jonathan

There are a few things we can do, though I don't think it will resolve your issues. You will probably need to post in the software forum for further assistance. In the meantime:

You need to put Combo where we instructed you to put it....on the desktop. Not in a folder on the desktop as you have it:
    c:\documents and settings\Jon\Desktop\SOB\ComboFix.exe

I strongly advise you to cleanup your Desktop. Remove everything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and definitely do not use it for long term storage. You need to keep ComboFix.exe here for now as we need it, but we will be removing it when we are finished with your cleanup. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here like you are doing.

Now use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\{44B50BDD-E8D4-46A5-B0F5-3518FED0993E}_D36LYF1S_Jon.job
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\{AEE18E26-F037-45E2-9B44-6A05C2D11E7C}_D36LYF1S_Jon.job"
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\{FC0C9572-C7DC-4A29-898F-92524F8D538B}_D36LYF1S_Jon.job
    C:\WINDOWS\Qjeroqenezuduq.bin

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    Viewpoint Media Player (Remove Only)

Tell me if you have any problems doing the above.

If not, then it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
