Fighting a week long problem that seems to be getting worse.

    Running XP Media Center SP3

I use Avira as my anti-virus and spybot as anti-spyware. Several days ago system was lagging on the internet. Scanned with both of the above and found several issues: virtumonde.a, smitfraud. After, I thought, my system was clean I also ran CCleaner.

This seemed to help but after a couple of days it seems to be getting worse. Spybot won't start (I can see it in task manager but it won't launch). I have also seen an internet redirection through "windowsclick" which is also annoying.

I have read several of the forums and have tried to download: MGtools, Super Antispyware and Malware bytes. Only MGtools worked and I have included the log file below. The other two wouldn't even load or run.

Major Geeks was recommended to me from several others and this is my first time posting.

    Thanks

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

First you must disable Spybot's Teatimer. See this: How to disable Spybot's TeaTimer

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
    Java(TM) SE Development Kit 6 Update 4
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    Java(TM) 6 Update 3
    Java(TM) 6 Update 4
    Java(TM) 6 Update 5
    Java(TM) 6 Update 7
    Java(TM) 6 Update 11

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.
After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Local Settings\Temp

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Now see if you can run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, and ComboFix. If you can run any of them then attach their logs too.

You're welcome. Please read ALL of the below before doing anything.

The first thing I asked you to do was disable Teatimer. You did not do that and as a result some things were not fixed. Please start at the beginning of my previous fix and run thru to the end again. And disable Teatimer this time first as requested. You don't need to repeat the uninstalls of old Sun Java versions or install the new one since those parts worked, but the rest must be repeated. Also add the below lines to the HijackThis part of the fix. These appear now because Teatimer got in the way of proper uninstallation.

    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0015-0000-0006-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.5.0_06) -
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0001-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.6.0_01) -
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0002-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.6.0_02) -
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0003-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.6.0_03) -
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0005-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.6.0_05) -

I should have asked before I did it. I can not start Spybot in order to disable teatimer. I went into task manager and ended the teatimer process but that would have disabled it until the next start-up.

Since I can't start Spybot would it just be better to uninstall it until I get everything corrected?

Once I did everything else and restarted my antivirus was catching several dozen virus / malware - it was the UACD.sys (I think) - I deleted those files as the antivirus found them.

    I will keep at it!

    Thanks again.

Yes assuming you can get it uninstalled.

I was able to uninstall Spybot and ran through the sequence again. PC seemed better but is getting worse - to the point that it is locking up in Firefox or IE ( I have been staying away from IE)

I have attached new avenger and MGlogs.

    Thanks

My antivirus is constantly catching the following:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkodxzfp.dll

    and

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\fdahtby.dll

We deleted those back in the Avenger fix. Are you sure it is not just detecting them in the quarantine? Or did they really come back?

Your MGtools log is not complete. Before we can continue, we need a complete log. Please delete the current C:\MGtools.exe and C:\MGlogs.zip files.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Also please try to run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, and ComboFix as rquested in the READ & RUN ME. Attach the logs if they run. Make sure that you shutdown protection software before trying to run ComboFix.

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {01BB9F62-5FAC-4A13-B58D-54A22F0C3250} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\bkodxzfp.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E9C0BA2D-FBCE-4184-AA62-4AE15ADE8031} - c:\windows\system32\fdahtby.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: spbdgwbj - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\fdahtby.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Also delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Local Settings\Temp

Now run Ccleaner to clean out only temp files and nothing else!

    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Thanks again!!

Things are running much better! Avira has found a couple of more bugs and I think your last post should correct those.

    I will keep monitoring!

    Thanks

Note: when I rean MGtools\analyse.exe the lines you indicated in the last post were not there. I continued on with the rest of your instructions and have posted the log files below.

You're welcome. Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
