    Hi, I have been helped successfully through this site a number of times and am having new problems on a different PC.

    Initial problems started a couple of months ago when my comp would always run at 100% in task manager for now reason. Installing MBAM and running have always fixed this problem but the most recent time it has been quite persistent and will not resolve the issue.

    The items it finds each time a run it are hldrrr.exe, syrosa.exe (or something like that) both of which appear to be pretty nasty rootkits. I also find flec006.exe in the taks manager every now and then.

    I attempted to perform the read and run me first in its entirety.
    1) CCleaner is installed on my PC but does nothing when I double click to open it
    2) SAS fails during the installation everytime
    3) SpybotSD installs successfully but says it is not a valid win32 app when I open the program
    4) latest MBAM logs attached
    5) no success with combofix
    6) mglogs.zip attached

    Thanks in advance.

    Let's start with this:

    Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    o If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Drivers::
    hldrrr
    syrosa
    flec006

    File::
    C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\M
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\DOWNLD

    Folder::
    C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\M
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\DOWNLD

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SROSA\0000]

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combo.

    Whenever I have tried to run ComboFix.exe using the "Read and Run Me First" Guide and also when I tried to run with the text file as you have instructed below I get a message saying ...

    "C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Desktop\ComboFix.exe is not a valid Win32 application."

    I have tried a quick workaround to this a renaming the file cf.exe but this does not work either. Any suggestions on how to get combofix working?

    Arrggh....

    download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the "Input script here:"
    part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

    Further Arghhh....

    Similar to Combofix, Avenger also is not recognized as a valid win32 application. I hope there is a plan C...

    Arrrggghhhhhhhh......

    Open notepad and copy and paste the following text in the quote box into the window:
    Save this as fix.bat
    Choose to save as all files.
    Doubleclick fix.bat and let the program run.
    A small black dos window will flash, this is normal.

    Now use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\M
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\DOWNLD

    Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file.

    I have completed all the steps below and have attached the new MGlogs.zip file. The only problem I encountered was that the folder "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\DOWNLD" would not show up in the browser even though windows is set to show all hidden files/folders. I opened the folder and deleted its contents but cannot find a way to delete the folder itself. Any suggestions here?

    See if you can do this:
    Now repeat the avenger fix I gave you:

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.

    None of those items showed up in the "Non-plug and Play Drivers."

    Also, because I was unable to do anything at that point it seems avenger still says it is not a valid win32 application.

    Finally, I realized that the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\Justin\Application Data\M" was actually still sitting in my recycle bin and could not be deleted from there.

    Aarrggh........

    • Download the attached NEW VERSION of FixBagle.exe file and make sure you save it to the C:\ folder so that you have a C:\FixBagle.exe file.
    • Now run the C:\FixBagle.exe file by double clicking on it.
    • Now click Start, Run, and enter copy and paste the below bold print into the Run box and then click OK.

    c:\mgtools\psexec -s -i regedit

    • If the above works properly, you should see the Windows Registry Editor open up. If it does then continue. If it does not, then stop and make sure you entered the above properly.
    • In the Registry Editor click File, Import and then navigate to the C:\MGtools folder and double click on the FixBagle.reg file to import it into your registry. Make sure you double click on FixBagle.reg not FixBagle.bat. If it works properly you should get a success message about it being added to your regisrty.
    • If you get a success message continue on with the below, otherwise stop and explain to me any problems you had.

    Now run Ccleaner to clean temp files!

    I downloaded FixBagle.exe to the C:\ folder and ran the program. A DOS command window came up and a bunch of lines of code ran quickly and I couldn't help but notice many of the lines were file not found or something of that nature (it is very hard to tell as the window immediately closely milliseconds after it scrolls). Not sure if this is normal.

    Following this, I tried to type in the command many times to ensure I entered it as instructed. The is the following message I always receive.

    "Windows cannot find 'c:\mgtools\psexec'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."

    I also did try and locate this file in the mgtools directory and could not find anything called psexec. Not sure if it should be in there or not.

    My mistake....some days are better than others. :(

    Now please go to this link:http://live.sysinternals.com/

    • find the psexec.exe file listed in the list and click on it and download and save it to the C:\MGtools folder. Doing this properly is critical for other steps below to work properly.
    • Now download the attached FixBagle.exe file and make sure you save it to the C:\ folder so that you have a C:\FixBagle.exe file.
    • Now run the C:\FixBagle.exe file by double clicking on it.
    • Now run MBAM again, update it, run a scan. If it tells you it needs to reboot then IMMEDIATELY do the reboot before continuing with the below.
    • Now see if you can run SUPERAntiSpyware (SAS), update it, and run a scan. If it does not run, try renaming the executable file name as suggested in the READ & RUN ME to SAS.exe
    • Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it
    • Now attach the below new logs
      • MBAM
      • SAS (if it ran)
      • C:\MGlogs.zip

    • Now download the attached NEW VERSION of FixBagle.exe file and make sure you save it to the C:\ folder so that you have a C:\FixBagle.exe file. Yes you should be overwriting the old version.

    Nasty stuff to remove.....

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Now for the overkill:

    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

    I didn't find either of the items to fix in HijackThis that you quoted below

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [drvsyskit] C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\hldrrr.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [german.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\wintems.exe

    Besides this I went ahead and completed the rest of the step and have attached the mglogs.zip and the avenger log file.

    Well I have no idea what happened between the last set of MGLogs and this set....but it all is gone. :)

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)

    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
