7 zip is okay. Perhaps you could use that.

OK, let adwcleaner remove everything including Pepperzip and Ionic items.
I may have to send you off to software if the Windows Repair doesn't work. Have you tried booting into safe mode with networking to see if you can connect to the internet?

I had Adwcleaner remove everything. See the attached log.

Then I rebooted in Safe Mode with Networking. Attempting to create a network connection in Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center yielded the following error:

"Windows did not detect any networking hardware".

I don't see a Start Repairs tab. I see a Repairs tab. Clicking on it revealed a button, but it was an Open Repairs button, not a Start button. Clicking on it revealed a list of 33 repairs to be effected, all of which were checked (selected) except for:

    16 - Unhide Non System Files (2)
28.02 - Repair Windows 8 / 10 App Store (Completely Reset App Store)

There is a Start Repairs button.

Clicking the Start Repairs button didn't prompt me to create a System Restore point or allow me to deselect all repairs. Instead the program just immediately launched into making repairs. While it was still on the first repair, Reset Registry Permissions, which was supposed to be selected anyway, I terminated the whole repair process, since it didn't seem to match the description given, so that I could check with you about EXACTLY what to do. Perhaps this program has changed since the protocol of how to run it was written. Please advise.

You should see this screen (see screenshot) AFTER clicking Open Repairs button. It is here on this screen that you deselect all and then select the options we instruct you to. THEN you can click Start Repairs.

    No such repair was listed.

I otherwise proceeded as instructed, but no change was effected with respect to my inability to connect to the internet due to a Windows error 651.

    Hi there :)

At this point I suggest you post in the software forum for assistance with your internet problem. Are you happy for me to give final steps?

Just to check, when you ran Windows Repair, did you choose Repair Network option? :confused

    Skullduggery's Dupe Master Sergeant

No, it wasn't on the list you gave me, but I see it's the 13th option on the program's list of repairs. Should I run it again with just that option?

Yes , give it a go :) Let me know if it fixes it.

    No, it didn't work.

That's a shame. Go ahead and post in the software forum and give the exact error you are getting when trying to connect. Are you happy for me to give you final steps at this point?

Final steps? Shouldn't I just do a system restore? Won't that fix it?

A system restore after all our hard work removing malware? Do you have a known clean restore point?

I don't want to do a system restore. I thought you were implying that this wasn't fixable by any other means. If that wasn't what you meant, then by all means, please tell me how to proceed.

Yes, I have a clean restore point.

OK then go for it. (your choice) Once done it would be a good idea to run the instructions in the Read and Run Me First all over again. Attach logs when you have them and I will check them over.

I just thought the people in software would be able to sort it out for you. (your broken internet)

OK, I'll ask for help there then. Thanks for all your help. But what are the "final steps" that you were going to give me?

    You are most welcome :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove them, you can delete these files now.
    3. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    4. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    5. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
