A couple of days ago I was waching a streaming video. While waching the video I contracted a virus somehow. I began getting error popups on my taskbar, popups asking me to enable protection against various malware, porn sites being downloaded onto my desktop, lag when trying to search for things on google etc. I ran a few of the programs here (CCleaner, SAS) SAS would not run, nor would malwarebytes.I disconnected the internet and got an old version of SAS to run. It found several viruses including Alexa.Adware which I cannot seem to get rid of. I'm attaching this old log, as my computer is now randomly freezing when it pleases, and I cannot get a complete scan off. Also, whenever I try to install SAS it gives me an error. The old SAS version I've been using comes from another computer I have access to. I attempted to update it, and it's finished a few times but I'm not sure if it really updated at all. Accompanying the virus I got, in my task manager I kept seeing the program sr28388.exe or something like that eating up my CPU. I'd always manually stop it, and I'm not sure if SAS has gotten rid of it or not. Also, even though I do not have IE installed, IE iexplorer.exe keeps popping into my task manager.

I got malwarebytes to finally install, but it will not run. Also, whenever I try to visit a site with anything pertaining to malware or virus removal, it redirects me to a search engine several times before allowing me on.

    Combofix will also not run.

Hate to bump this, but it's been about a week since my original post and I'm still having a lot of problems. Thanks for taking the time to read this. :)

The below fixes and advice are specific to this member's problem and should be used for issue(s) on this machine only.

Hello, Axsca, please do not install any other software while we are still working with you unless instructed. Once we have given you the all clean and final instructions you will be free to install what you want.

I strongly recommend that you clean up this account's Desktop immediately leaving only links.[ C:\Documents and Settings\Ima Mazin\Desktop] Do not store downloads, exe files, iso files....etc on your Desktop. First it is not a safe place to keep them (i.e., you may loose them due to malware, and a cluttered Desktop is an easy hiding place for malware), and last but not least - it can have an effect on your PCs performance.

*You're dangerously short of free space on your hard drive:
Questions: Is your AVG anti-virus program working? Do you know what this is? C:\17bbe6cfa547500c67f2a477ff9879ee

    Step 1:
Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop
    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bold command into Run box and hit Enter.
    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -v

    • Follow the instructions to type in "delete" when it asks you what to do when if finds something.
    • When done, a log file should be created on your C: drive named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply.

    Step 2:
Please look in Add/Remove Programs for the following and uninstall if found. If you get any errors just make a note and continue on.
    Step 3:
Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Step 4:
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Step 5:
Using Windows Explorer - Delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    Step 6:
Open CCleaner - select "Cleaner" > "Run Cleaner" <---use this function ONLY!

    Step 6:
Then run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

Please attach the below logs to your next reply:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • TDSSKiller.x.x.x_xx.xx.xxxx_xx.xx.xx_log.txt
Make sure you tell me if you had any problems running this procedure and give a description of how things are working now!

My AVG anti-virus program was not running before following your instructions.
I do not know what C:\17bbe6cfa547500c67f2a477ff9879ee is.

I had tried to remove Malware Defense before, as I knew I hadn't downloaded it. I got rid of it from add/remove programs previously, and also with hijackthis and killbox. I'm not sure if it still on my computer or not, but it is no longer showing up in hijackthis or my add/remove programs.

When trying to delete all files/subfolders from the two temp folders, two files were unable to be deleted.

    Hello, Axsca

*You need run MSconfig and put your PC into normal startup mode as requested in step 1 of the READ & RUN ME.

Msconfig must be set for Normal Startup mode

*Against my advice - you installed CamStudio and updated to Mozilla Firefox (3.0.16) (the most current version is Mozilla Firefox 3 3.5.7)

As per my last reply"(Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day)".

To be clearer, my question: Is AVG working properly?. If NOT - please create a new thread in our Software Forum.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double-click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

My computer is already in normal startup mode. I did not download anything between the time you gave me instructions until now. My computer is now acting better however still lagging horribly for having over 3GB of ram.

I do not know if AVG is running properly as I could not run it before. It seems to be working fine now. I will follow the rest of your instructions, thanks for the help.
