    I have completed the 'read and run me first' steps 3 times in the last few months but am now posting for the 1st time because I still have issues after completing the steps.

    The most bothersome issue right now is that IE seems to start itself in the background and periodically popup sessions on my machine. In the task manager process list, I often see multiple iexplore.exe entries. If I kill them, they come back on their own. I only use Firefox but the IE sessions are popping up on there own.

    I get re-directs or popups saying I have spy-ware on my system. It is often next to impossible to kill the sessions.

    Currently getting 'Security Center Alert' popup. Unsure if valid. Asking me if I want to block suspicious software: Win32.Netsky.Q I get this even if the windows firewall is off. Not sure if this is a valid popup or not.

    Attaching my latest logs below. Will attach 1st 3 logs on this post and the rest on the next.

    Hope you can help.

    Why is there no anti-virus software installed on this machine?

    Please Disable Spybot's TeaTimer

    * Run Spybot and click Mode
    * Select Advanced Mode.
    * Then click Tools and select Resident.
    * Now in the right window pane, uncheck TeaTimer.
    * Also while this is open, in the left column now select IE Tweaks
    * and then in the right pane make sure all the Miscellaneous locks are unchecked.
    * Now quit Spybot!

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

    Tim,

    Thanks for all the help you supply (GREATLY appreciated). I actually downloaded and installed AVG Free 8.0 a few days ago and have it running now. I was running AVG Free in the past but can't remember why I stopped. I seem to remember AVG saying the free version was going away at some time...not sure....

    I went in to disable Spybot's TeaTimer but found the TeaTimer box already unchecked...

    Ran analyze.exe but it did not show the BHO: solution class entry (Qrux1AQ4.dll). I did have the biseyufore entry but the .dll name was different (mine was for pahiboji.dll). I fixed that entry (I googled pahiboji.dll and found lots of stuff saying it was malware).

    Did the fieME.reg.
    Ran The Avenger.
    c:\WINDOWS\Temp and the other folder (...\Local Settings\Temp) didn't have any files. There where folders but I wasn't sure if I should delete those or not...I didn't yet....

    I know I still have the Spyware anti-virus virus....It popped up while I was doing this response to you.

    David

    Well, between my last fix for you and now, you have become incredibly infected.

    First Click Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices.

    * Scroll down to “Non-plug and Play Drivers” and click the plus icon to open those drivers.
    * Then search for TDSSserv.sys
    * Let me know if you find this or not.
    * If you do find it, right click on it, and select Disable. Do not try to uninstall it.
    * Also if this is found and you disable it, then reboot and see if you can run the other scans that would not run.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Now re-run:
    SAS
    MBAM
    Combo

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the AppInit_DLLs line. Ignore it and click OK to continue.

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from SAS, MBAM and ComboFix.

    Tim,

    I did find the TDSSserv.sys and disabled it.

    Many of the entries you listed to be found via analyse.exe I could not find. I only found:
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [biseyufore] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\pahiboji.dll",s (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\Run: [biseyufore] Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\pahiboji.dll",s (User 'NETWORK SERVICE')
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.avsystemcare.com (HKLM)
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.onerateld.com (HKLM)
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.safetydownload.com (HKLM)
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.trustedantivirus.com (HKLM)
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.virusremover2008.com (HKLM)
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.virusschlacht.com (HKLM)

    I fixed those entries.

    Attached are the logs. Thanks and Happy Holidays!

    Use windows explorer and tell me if this still exists:
    c:\windows\system32\balifeze.dll

    If is does not, then we can do our final clean up:

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)

    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Tim,

    The file: c:\windows\system32\balifeze.dll DOES exist. Let me know what you'd like me to do.....

  15. TimW

    Are you able to right click and delete it?

    If not,

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    o If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:

    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\windows\system32\balifeze.dll

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    I was able to right-click and delete. Now just go through the final cleanup steps outlined in your previous post?

    If after a reboot it is still gone, then yes. :)
