    Howdy folks!

Different computer, my mothers this time!

When I first started to try to put the msconfig startup mode to Normal, it quickly restarted the computer before I could click it. It did this three times, so I started in safe mode and did it from there, then did the scans as normal. Just didnt know if that was a symptom of anything you might see on the logs. When I tried it just now, it doesnt auto restart when I open msconfig now.

I plan to install McAfee after all of this, but waited especially due to ComboFix.

Just let me know what we're looking at and, as always, thank you so very much!

Also, I'd be interested in what to disable on startup as well to improve the computer speed!

    Thanks! :)

It would appear that the scans took care of the malware.

Use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Local Settings\Temp\adxapie.sys

Can you tell me what these are and why they should be there:
    Code:
    C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Application Data\
    ay6wyk~1.gif Mar 1 2009 2119 "ay6wYKYrtt.gif"
    ay6wyk~2.gif Mar 1 2009 598 "ay6wYKYryy.gif"
    ay6wyk~3.gif

Now Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Tell me what issues you are still having.

Tim: Thank you for your assistance!

I went to the prescribed folder and I saw no file of adxapie.sys. Any idea why it might be gone?

As for the photos in the Application Data, I didn't look at them for fear they might have malicious code.

However, only three of the files were there:

    ay6wYKYrnn.gif
    ay6wYKYryy.gif
    ay6wYKYrtt.gif

    They have been deleted. I didn't see ay6wyk~1.gif, ay6wyk~2.gif, or ay6wyk~3.gif.

It doesn't seem like I'm having any other issues, and if you say my logs are clean, we're ready to wrap up!

Thank you again. I'll await your closing post!

Good to know.......If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)

    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
