Virus and Spyware Definitions of Microsoft Security Essentials could not be updated since 2019-10-21.

Error code: 0x80240022
Error description: The definition updates couldn't be downloaded. This might be caused by a missing file, an incorrect system setting, or a problem with a registry file.

I downloaded the Virus and Spyware Definitions but could not be updated manually.

Internet browsing is possible. Therefore I assume that Internet connection is normal.

Thereafter, I ran READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide Procedure, to check whether there were any threats.

The logs are attached herewith.

I have re-run MGtools and the log is attached herewith. If no problems are found in the logs, I hope to re-install Microsoft Security Essentials.

 

Download SFC Utility - MajorGeeks
Upload the log file.

 

SFC Utility v1.1 log is uploaded herewith.

 

The System File Checker shows no errors.
See if you can repair Microsoft Security Essentials.

 

As re-installing Microsoft Security Essentials did not solve the issue, Rising Antivirus was installed. No problems encountered thereafter.
