Malware? Permission errors

    I'm cleaning up this computer and ran across "My Way Search Assitant" in Add/Remove. It has no 'remove' button so I thought it might be some sort of malware. I started the Read & Run procedures with the following results:

    SAS - no problems; no logs
    MBAM - no problems; logs attached
    Combofix - would not run; I got this error message -"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I am running an admin account.
    RootRepeal - downloaded and extracted; when I double-clicked the .exe, nothing happened. I doublechecked to make sure I was hitting the extracted file and not the zip. I looked in Task Manager and no process was running.
    MGTools - logs attached.

    Other than these permission errors, nothing is obviously wrong other than it is pretty slow, but that may be partly/mostly/entirely due to only having 256k RAM. I'll be correcting that when I get this problem worked out. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Yes it is slow due to this:
    Total Physical Memory 256.00 MB
    Available Physical Memory 97.05 MB

    Use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\32788R22FWJFW
    C:\32788R22FWJFW.0.tmp
    C:\32788R22FWJFW.1.tmp

    Now try to run Combo and then run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    I tried to delete the folders but the following hung: hidec.exe; n.com; NirCmd.cfexe. These were in each folder and gave me the following error message -"Cannot delete [filename]: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." I deleted everything in each folder except these three files.

    I tried to run ComboFix a couple more times and got the same permission error. In the process it created another 32788R22FWJFW folder for each time. I've now got five of them.

    Since ComboFix didn't run no logs were generated. I wasn't sure there was any point in trying GetLogs.bat, but I did and logs are attached.

    Your logs are clean......you will need to post in the software section regarding you issue with permissions. (Usually it is just a matter of right clicking the exe file and choosing properties then going to the security tab and adding the user.)

    You can delete these:
    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
