my problem: computer turns on but nothing happens, no bios loading or anything.

problem occurred a few days ago with me downloading a file from (what i thot was) my antivirus software. programs wouldn't run and internet pages refused to load despite a good internet connection. i tried restarting my pc but when it booted up it got stuck at windows vista's loading screen. i then decided to try restoring my computer to an earlier version with the vista disc. unfortunately all this did is install windows again but with all my old files still there but inaccessible. in particular the computer refused to scan for an internet connection. after the restore point restarted my computer the computer now powers up, then sits at a black screen. no bios, no boot options.

sorry for the wall of text, but it seemed silly to post only the most immediate problem. any help with this would be appreciated.

Moved to the Software Forum which is more appropriate due to things you have already done with a restore and reinstall. Unbootable PC issues need to resolved outside of the Malware Forum.

Can you press the proper key at startup and look in the BIOS?

Your problem did seem to start with malware by your description, but has been compounded by what you have done since.

How would you feel about retrieving your personal data/files, and then wiping the hard drive and re-installing Windows? That might be your quickest, easiest and most satisfactory option at this point.

BTW ... the more and the better information that you supply, the better the chance that the reply you receive will be a good one. Don't be shy about writing a book! I, for one, tend to reply only to a request for help that has put in an effort to supply the pertinent information necessary to consider the request.

sorry bout the late replies, I havent been able to reply for a while. I ended up removing my old hard drive from the machine and doing a fresh install with windows 7. I posted a thread in the hardware forum for ways to remove the old vista OS. there are some files that i would really rather not loose. anyways the pc works now and windows 7 looks ace :D

    thanks for the help :)
