    Hello,

    Yesterday, I noticed that while surfing the net using Firefox, I would get odd Internet Explorer popups from Chinese websites. I was suspicious that I had some sort of malware problem, but I don't remember ever going into inappropriate websites or downloading anything out of the ordinary. In any case, I ran a virus scan with my Norton antivirus, which turned out to clean. I ran another scan with an AVG virus scan, which resulted in the following report:

    Infections:
    C:\WINNT\system32\gn34ntz.dll ----> Trojan horse BHO.DPZ
    C:\WINNT\system32\mspdtc.dll ----> Virus found Win32/heur

    Warnings:
    HKU\S-1-5-21-1708537768-1957994488-854245398-1000\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\CmdMapping\\{c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} ----> Found Adware.Generic

    I healed/removed what I can from the AVG anti-virus program. I figured I was ok and continued surfing the net; however, I was getting odd program errors, which forced me to shut down my Firefox.

    I ran AVG anti-virus again and found nothing. I then ran what you guys had on the Readme. I have attached the logs. Also, when I ran MGtools.exe, I got an error message near the end that goes:

    "ProcessDll.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services

    Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

    Process id = 0x1e0 (480), Thread id= 0x6a0 (1696)

    Click OK to terminate the application
    Click CANCEL to debug the application"

    I clicked ok.

    Please review my attachment and tell me what to do to eliminate my problem.

    You are running two anti-virus programs:
    Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition
    AVG Free 8.0

    You need to remove one of them!

    Now use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\WINNT\system32\v2messen.exe

    Now tell me what issues you are still having.

    Does it matter whether there is 2 anti-viruses running in a computer at the same time? Or do they counter each other? In any case, I'm actually at work... I'll let you know once I get home. Thanks.

    Yes it matters.....from the Read and Run First:

    So far so good... I deleted C:\WINNT\system32\v2messen.exe and then uninstalled AVG. Restarted the computer. I don't have any issues so far, in terms of program errors... just yet.

    Let me know.......

    We can start cleaning up from all the scans:

    Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    If you get a success message, then it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significan amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below

      * Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

      • Delete the C:\combo-fix folder from combofix.

    4. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    5. If we had you run RenV.exe, you can delete it and the Log.txt file on your Desktop.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    8. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    9. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    10. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    11. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    12. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
