Hello, first i like to say to whoever is helping me with this thanks in advance.

So on to my issue. The problem i'm having is as follows. I was looking at a pdf to go menu that was infected with something nasty. Thats what i get for ordering ribs to go. to the problem at hand. after i closed the pdf i shut the computer down (I'm running xp service pack 3) and the next time i restarted the pc i was unable to start firefox and internet explorer was running super slow. Upon loading firefox which is the browser that i normally use (i hate IE) i get the following error message. The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click ok to terminate the application. I then have to click ok twice to make the error message go away. I did some searching on this trouble code and found on mozilla's troubleshooting forum that this is caused by malware and that running a malwarebytes scan followed by a combofix scan fixed this issue for a bunch of other users. However this did not work for me.

I followed the windows xp cleaning procedure listed here by running SUPERAntiSpyware, malwarebytes anti-malware, combofix, root repeal, and MGtools. I also tried reinstalling firefox at the end of all of this and i still have the same error code. Also when running avg it doesn't find any issues at all.

here are the logs it is only letting me upload 4 of them i have 5. so i will be replying imedately with final log. i did read the the read me about bumping the thread which is why i'm going to reply right.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Your problems do not appear to be due to malware since they are all clean. I suggest that you uninstall FireFox, reboot, and then delete the folders for FireFox. This may be the key to removing a bad add on. To preserve your bookmarks, you can use the below procedure.

    • Run FireFox and click Bookmarks.
    • Then select Organize Bootmarks.
    • Then on the next window click File and then select Export. Save the bookmarks.html file to your Desktop for later use in importing.
Now download and save the installer for the current version of FireFox but DO NOT install it yet. Get it here: Mozilla FireFox

You will need exit FireFox now and use Internet Explorer to continue with the below until we reinstall FireFox.

Start by uninstalling FireFox and then reboot. Do not skip the reboot.

After reboot, delete the below folders:
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    C:\Documents and Settings\Janine\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla

Now reinstall FireFox from the file previously downloaded.
Import your bookmarks file. (similar process to exporting).

If you continue to have problems, I suggest that you post in the Software Forum since this is not a malware problem.

Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
