Hi, 2 days ago, MalwareBytes detected a Trojan.Sirefef on my computer. Also at the same time, some virus played some random sound effects on the background which stopped after removal of the Trojan. I removed it and now my desktop icons auto arranges to the left even with auto arrange unchecked. The logs are attached below

    Thanks,
    decinon

Hi Kestrel, thanks for the response.

All I get is a message saying "F:\frst64 is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file " or "F:\frst64.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"
Also, I got locked out of My Pictures, My Documents and My Videos in Libraries\Documents. Windows Defender and Windows Firewall also will not work because of error 0x0x80070424.

    Thanks.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system

    Attached is fixlist.txt
    • Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST64.exe on your flash drive.

    Now re-enter System Recovery Options.
Run FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (How to attach)

    Now attempt to boot normally.

    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.

Now, again, into safe mode please to try the next part (If this fails you may have to temporarily uninstall Trend Micro)

Download these two files to your desktop

    BFE.reg

Hi, firewall is working now, but defender still has the same error. Here's the log.

Yes, well you can try the below but if it does not work I would suggest that Trend Micro is probably the cause of why Defender is having troubles. How long have you had Trend Micro installed and has it worked along side Defender before in the past? (Edit, I have just read that there is definately a conflict so that is what is wrong ;))

    • Open Run, and type in services.msc then press Enter.
    • In services window, locate Windows Defender service in the services list.
    • Verify that the Status is Started. If the Status column is blank,
    • right click on the service and select Start.
    • If you get error trying to force start the Windows Defender service, try to change the Startup Type to Automatic, and then restart the computer.
    • Let me know.

Huh? I don't remember having Trend Micro. Also, defender does not show up on service.msc.

    Use Revo to uninstall it.

    Try Revo Uninstaller.
Choose the option on the bottom of the list (#4). Be very careful while deleting the bolded registry items ONLY!! This software will create a system restore point for you as well prior to uninstalling a software program.

It dose'nt show up in Revo, Program Files or anywhere I've searched :(

OK, we'll forget about that little anomaly for now. What happens when you try and open up Windows Defender? I need exact error messages, it will help me figure out how to correct it all.

The specified service does not exist as an installed service (Error Code: 0x80070424)

Kestrel13! Super Malware Fighter - Major Dilemma Staff Member

Click start > type in regedit, click on regedit.exe to open up the Registry Editor. Navigate to this key, if it exists. Just let me know if it's there.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/services/WinDefend

There should also be 3 subfolders labeled parameters, security and triggerinfo.

If not, I could attach a copy from my Windows 7 computer and you can merge that with your registry.

Find the attached key you need from my computer. Windefend.zip. Download it to your desktop, unzip it, and double click it to let the Windefend.reg merge with your own registry. Then reboot and let me know if all is ok with Windows Defender.

:-D Beautiful, just beautiful looking logs now!! I am going to post you final steps to follow. Safe surfing ;)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
