    Hello all,

First I'd like to thank you for this site. It's very helpful!

I've read and followed all the directions (i hope) and am attaching the logs from the various scans.

I got the winantispy trojan about a week ago. Some of the problems are gone now from running the various fixes, but problems are still there. My PC is an HP Pavillion 1110n, Intel Celeron D Processor, Windows XP Home Edition.

I'm attaching logs in two posts.

Thanks in advance for any help!
    Mark

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Uninstall the Sunbelt CounterSpy trial since we are finished with it now!

    Also uninstall the below software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 0 of the READ ME

Make sure you reboot after uninstalling the above!

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Now run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it
double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
    Now run Ccleaner!

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. Avenger
    2. GetRunKey
    3. ShowNew
    4. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 8 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

    Hi Chaslang,

I did all the steps you told me to. The only spot that I was a little confused on was this:

    ----Now run Ccleaner!

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    Avenger
    GetRunKey
    ShowNew
    HJT

I ran Ccleaner and fixed the problems it found. You didn't say to do the fixes, but I assumed that was inferred. Then, when you said to attach the "new" logs of the four things, I again assumed that I was to re-run the GetRunKey, ShowNew and HJT... which I did. These logs are attached.

Everything seemed to run fine (with one exception of getting some strange error upon rebooting after installing the new Sun Java Runtime... It was telling me it couldn't find a file. I absentmindedly did not write down the error. If this happens again, I'll be sure a do that. (I closed the error box and it continued rebooting normally)

Let me know if there's anything else I need to do.

Thank you again VERY much for your help!

I'm thinking possibly my post got lost among all the others.

The main problems I had were fixed by the steps I was told to take, but there are still many programs, or whatever, running in the background. My wallpaper is still hidden by a solid white screen too.

If there's anything else I need to do, or run, or install, etc, please let me know.

Thank you again for all your help.

Yes somehow your post slipped by without noticing that you had replied. Sorry about that!

Actually we only wanted you to do the samething that was requested in the READ & RUN ME with CCleaner. That is just clean the temp files and garabge. We did not want you to run the Issues tab and fix anything in the registry.

If it happens again, tell us the exact word for word message.

You ran HijackThis improperly this time. You ran this: C:\Program Files\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe

Delete this file and only run this one as requested in the READ ME: C:\Program Files\HijackThis\analyse.exe

Your logs are clean, but you forgot to specifically tell me how things are working. Are you having any other malware problems?
