    Hi,

My Dell Dimension 9100 is running slow, mouse becomes erratic at times, when moving from page to page there are intermediate, short freezes. Somehow I've picked up Whitesmoke and sweetpacks toolbars which I cannot uninstall.

This has been going on about 30 days. At first I would restart and would be ok for 30 minutes or so and I would restart again.

Unfortunately my grandchildren have access to this computer.

After running the steps in the sticky things have improved but it is not fixed.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Tom

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://search.conduit.com/?ctid=CT3...00E967-6EA5-4106-BC87-C10ADD276C15&SSPV=TB_C3
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://start.sweetpacks.com/?src=10...2&barid={A1BC1A21-942B-11E2-85EC-00123F74FF09}
    O2 - BHO: CrossriderApp0019962 - {11111111-1111-1111-1111-110111991162} - C:\Program Files\Supreme Savings\Supreme Savings.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SearchProtection] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Search Protection\_run.bat
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Updater19962.exe] C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\Local Settings\Application Data\Updater19962\Updater19962.exe /extensionid=19962 /extensionname='Supreme Savings' /chromeid=ihkeoookbpemkdccdccdmacnidhooohk /stayidle /delay=300

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run it by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7, or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

First, my sincere apologies for not responding sooner. I had to unexpectedly had to go out of town. Thank you for your help.

I could not get OTM to run. I would click the "Move" button and nothing would happen. I would then get a "not responding" message at the top of the screen. I tried a number of times.

The folder or file would be created but the file is empty. I am not able to attach the empty folder.

Over all the computer seems to be running and behaving much better. The mini freezes have been reduced.

Thanks again. I will be able to respond today and tomorrow and in the evening on Friday, Monday and Tuesday.

Shutdown Malwarebytes and Avast and then try running the previous fix. Note, I only want the new MGtools log if OTM runs properly. If you cannot get OTM to run properly even with Malwarebytes and Avast shutdown then try running the OTM fix in safe boot mode. But reboot to normal mode to run GetLogs.bat.

Looks good now. So how are things working?

Vastly improved. Thank you! The toolbars for sweetpacs and whitecloud are still in "View" on FireFox.

I frequent autoblog.com and the photos for each post are not showing. However when I click on the headline the photos appear on the new screen.

When I reinstalled Avast it mentioned that there were still remnants of another anti-virus program on my c: drive.

Other than the above I don't seem to have any further problems.

Use the below and see if it helps:

    Reset Firefox to Defaults

Not a malware problem that I can help you with. If this is happening in Firefox, see if it works properly after the reset. Otherwise see if Internet Explorer works.

Probably just the below left overs from Ad-Aware which you can manually delete. Actually the first is just from junkware that you had installed. ;)

    C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\Local Settings\Application Data\Conduit
    C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\Local Settings\Application Data\adaware
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins\adawaretb.xml
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\gfibto.sys

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Go back to step 4 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Things are going great. The firefox reset cleared up my remaining issues.

Thank you so much for all your help.
