I read the sticky guide on malware and got all the way to using MGtools before finally was able to get rid of my worm. I was unaware that this would prevent me from ever using Java again. Is this what's supposed to happen?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

No! Perhaps you uninstalled all Java versions and did not install the current version. Or perhaps you had an infection with the Java files themselves.

Attach ALL of the logs from the READ & RUN ME so we can see what is in them.

I did the malware scan last week and since the problem was gone I didn't save the logs. I only uninstalled the previous Java updates and left the current one alone. It still shows up in add/remove programs. I didn't realize that there was a problem with it until recently. At first, I just couldn't use my gnutella client but I figured, well, I probably shouldn't use it anyway.

Not only can't I use anything with Java, when I try to dl it my browser crashes. If there's nothing that can be done without the logs, so be it. I'll figure something out.

In the end the whole thing is my own fault anyway. I had to do a video tutorial on SpyBot for work and it kept coming up clean. It's kinda hard to show people what to do with anti-malware when you don't have any. I figured the best way to get some quick was install a P2P client. I really should have done more research before going with KaZaa. I honestly thought I would just get a little adware, not the deep-burrowing bug I got.

Serves me right. I intend to just explain verbally on the video what they should see...

If your only remaining issue is that Java will not work, you should probably just post in the Software Forum. All I could suggest at this point is to uninstall the version you do have installed and then reboot. After reboot, install the current version.

Without seeing any logs, I cannot say what may or may not have happen from any malware you may have had.

I'll give it a try. Thanks, Chas.

Jeez, I feel stupid for not having just done that. I think of myself as a fairly sophisticated end user, too.

Everything's fine now. Thanks again, Chas.
