Hi everyone, I've started through the malware removal process but whatever is on my computer will not let me navigate to my harddrives through My Computer. Is it allright to create a folder in shared documents to put all this stuff in or is there a way to work around this problem. I know I had read it was best to put everything in root c:.

I found the work around on that one and moved on to superantispyware and malwarebytes... neither of which will run. I was able to get them installed by changing their names but the programs themselves won't run in normal or safe mode. Superantispyware also won't run using the alternative startup. My question is should I go ahead and move on to the combofix and continue or do I need to find a way to run one of these.

I know I'm triple posting here but I thought I'd close it before someone wasted their time on a reply. I went ahead on to combofix and malware bytes which seemed to have solved the problem. Access to my computer restored, access to system restore restored, browser functioning properly, no more pop-ups, computer stopped locking up (has been running for a few hours without freezing), and superantispyware will run again. The only thing that hasn't gone back to normal is superantispyware will no longer update itself. It has to be manually updated. If there is a fix for that please drop a word. I'm posting my log files in case they are relevant to the problem. Otherwise many thanks for the very thorough walkthrough.

The free version does not automatically update. You can set it to ask you if you want to update before scanning when it starts up. This is set under the Preferences button.

Your logs are clean but you do need to do the below.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thank you for the reply. The fixme.reg was successful. There is one more thing going on though. I have a static ip set up on this computer and the DNS had been hijacked with some 85.?? numbers which got cleaned in the process. I set it back to the appropriate numbers and internet runs fine but whenever I restart the computer the DNS entries (only, everything else is fine) are blank and I have to enter them back in. There are four other computers on the router and all of them are fine. Aside from that everything is running fine now, superantispyware is updating via the update button again.

Those are from a Wareout infection. This infection is known to infect router hardware. However you are saying your other PCs are fine. Even so please do the below.

If you have a router hooked up then you need to follow the instructions for your hardware and reset it to factory default settings. Normally there is a recessed push button type switch that needs to be held down for some number of seconds to do this. After resetting to factory defaults on your router, you will need to reconfigure the router for your network if you have made any changes to the default network setup.

I will take a look thru your logs again to see if anything was missed but I also recommend doing the below since SAS and MBAM have made some recent updates.

    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this new log.
Now run Malwarebytes and click the Update tab. Then click the Check for Updates button so you update to the current version of the program and database. Then run a new scan with it too. Attach the new log.

Also if you continue to have problems with WareOut, download the new version of MGtools and run it and then attach a new MGlogs.zip file.

NOTE: I also see that you have an illegal crack for NOD32 running ( re, c:\program files\eset\nodenable.exe ) This could even be the source of your problems. I suggest that you remove this immediately as we will not provide future support with software like this installed. See our sticky: Warning about Keygens, Cracks, and other Illegal Software

Everything went fine. DNS problem was solved I believe after removing Nod32 and enabler. Scans only found a broken regedit command? Thank you for your help, posting my logs.
