Malware removal: THX GUYS!!

    I found out more than I wanted to know about ROOTKITS after I got one. Clicked "OK" on a McAfee red box warning without paying attention to it. Thought it was an update. Moral: PAY ATTENTION!!

    MajorGeeks forums saved me. THX MG guys!!

    I still seem to have one problem left over: Accessing "My Computer" takes 30 seconds. It then displays everything normally. But why the wait?

    Looking at my event log, seems Microsoft auto-updated my computer to SP3 just after you guys saved me. (Same evening). (Dang thatauto-update).. As far as I know I was "Microsoft" up to date, and would have said "no thank you" given the choice. Could this be an SP3 issue rather than a malware issue? It's not fatal, but a pain. Any ideas?

    You guys should be in the computer help guys Hall of Fame. THX for your efforts and your time!!!

    Could be a network / shared drive issue or something simple like a blank cd left in a disk drive.

    Verfiy all the cd/dvd drives are empty and unplug any USB drives. Open up My Computer and look for any obsolete network drives. Barring that, I’d guees malware. Start here and let us know how it worked.
