    Hello,

3 Days ago my anti-virus started detecting trojan's.
I can't quite remember the full details, but it involved a error with Minecraft and the only fix i could find was telling me to turn my antivirus off, so i stupidly did for awhile that day.
I use Avira Antivirus and each time it's detected one i've clicked Details > Quarantine or just Remove and ran MBAM and spybot but they never found anything. It's continued detecting more and more and the latest is TR/Drop.Softomat.AN.

I decided to google it and found my way to this thread - http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=227547
and ran TDSSKiller and it found nothing. I was thinking about replying to that thread with my log file but moved onto the READ & RUN ME FIRST section from Kestrel13's reply first. I followed all instructions there and continued onto the Windows XP Malware Removal/Cleaning Procedure. HitmanPro seemed to be the only one to detect the problems.

Here are all 5 log files.

I had to compress the HitmanPro log as it was to large to attach as a txt file.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: Avira SearchFree Toolbar BHO - {41564952-412D-5637-00A7-7A786E7484D7} - "C:\Program Files\AskPartnerNetwork\Toolbar\AVIRA-V7\Passport.dll" (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {84BFE29A-8139-402a-B2A4-C23AE9E1A75F} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: Avira SearchFree Toolbar - {41564952-412D-5637-00A7-7A786E7484D7} - "C:\Program Files\AskPartnerNetwork\Toolbar\AVIRA-V7\Passport.dll" (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ApnTBMon] "C:\Program Files\AskPartnerNetwork\Toolbar\Updater\TBNotifier.exe"
    O23 - Service: Ask Update Service (APNMCP) - APN LLC. - C:\Program Files\AskPartnerNetwork\Toolbar\apnmcp.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now uninstall the below programs. If you do not find them or they will not uninstall, just keep going.
    Avira SearchFree Toolbar
    Java 7 Update 25

Now install the current version of Sun Java from:

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXTlog
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Hello, Thank you for the reply.

I've run into a problem while doing the OTM step.

After pasting the code and clicking move it, my PC seems to of froze, all icons on the desktop are gone and so is my task bar, ctrl + alt + del wont open task manager but i can alt + tab to firefox and use browser as normal.

It's been like this for over 20 minutes now, so im thinking something went wrong? Posting this from my laptop.

OTM is now not responding, task manager still not working and desktop still missing everything.

Should i just turn PC off and try running these steps again? i'm assuming that may cause added problems.

If you hold down the Windows Logo key and hit the e key does Windows Explorer open up?

Also if you hold down the Windows Logo key and hit the r key does the Run box open up?

Sorry about the double post, i couldnt find the edit icon and i thought you may need to know that :)

Both Windows + r and Windows + e do not work.

Okay then since nothing works, you will have to hold in the power button to power down.
Wait a minute and then power back up.

Do not run OTM again. Just continue with the steps after it.

    Got through it :).

I haven't noticed any detections coming from Avira, but I've noticed the Web Protection in the Internet Protection side of it is no longer working, mousing over it tells me it's not installed anymore.

Also, I've noticed a strange pop-up re-direction that opened a new window, it happened when i clicked inside this chat box for the first time and also once when i clicked inside the code box from your first reply to copy it all, I went ahead and ran GooredFix.

The strange pop-up re-directions i have seem to only happen when i click inside search boxes, chat boxes, internet address bar, ect but not when i click any links.
The address on these pop-ups is about:blank and also
    dj.openmace.net/sd/wrap-0.01.html?u=https%3A%2F%2Fadsrvmedia.adk2.co%2Fadsrvmedia%2Fscripts%2Fdirect%2Fdirect.html%3Fa%3D21871100%26amp%3Bsecure%3Dtrue%26amp%3Bsize%3D800x600%26amp%3Bci%3D1%26amp%3Bserverdomain%3Dads.adsrvmedia.com%26amp%3Bcontext%3Dc21801153.

This is just System Restore and final instructions will have you toggling System Restore which will remove these old restore points.

Which browser is being used? Firefox I assume. If so, try the below.

    Reset Firefox to Defaults

Also since you had a problem getting OTM to run properly, let's do the below.

    Please download OTL by OldTimer.
    • Save it to your desktop.
    • Double-click on the OTL icon on your desktopto run it. (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8 use right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    • Check the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
    • Check the "Standard Output".
    • Change the setting of "Drivers" and "Services" to "All"
    • Copy the text in the code box below and paste it into the http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/66/otlcustomfix.png text-field.
      Code:
      activex
      netsvcs
      drives

    • Now click the http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/2405/runscanotl.png button.
    • One report will be created:
      • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Attach OTL.txt to your next message. (How to attach)

Resetting firefox seemed to work, no re-directions of any kind so far.

    "One report will be created:

    OTL.txt <-- Will be opened"

2 reports were opened for me, OTL.txt and Extras.txt.

    Here is OTL log.

OTL is doing what OTM did, freezing and needing a hard reset. Toolbar, desktop icons, everything disappears. Only the Browser remains useable.

These things just dont want to work for me :(

First try i had forgotten to exit malewarebytes, so i ran it again and success!

Things seem to be working a lot better, i noticed start-up was a lot faster after OTL's reboot and still no re-directions.

    Here are the requested log's.

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
