I've been following your guide to Malware removal. I have downloaded the 5 tools, but the SAS exe file won't run and once Spybot was installed the program would not start. Before trying any of the others I wanted to ask if there was anything else I should try doing.

    TIA

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Did you follow the instructions for using SAS? Specifically where it states the below?

If you are not getting a blue screen then what do you mean by does not run? Exactly what happens for SAS & Spybot? If nothing happens, please try running SAS in safe boot mode. Either way not matter what happens, just continue on with ALL steps in the READ ME and tell us later what happens.

What I meant was that when I click on the icons nothing happens. However, Malware bytes did work and after deleting some files SAS and Spybot also ran. I finished the rest of the process and seem to be running smooth. This message board is unbelievably helpful. Thank You.

One last Question. Should uninstall and delete the programs that I used to clean my cpu? When I try to install pc tools anti virus it says that pc cillin is already installed and that I should uninstall it first. Did that by chance get installed with any of the programs I installed during the clean up process? I can't find pc cillin in the remove programs list.

You need to complete all of the instructions in the READ & RUN ME and attach all of the requested logs so that we can be sure you are really clean. This infection may have left other files on your PC which could cause reinfection if not found and removed.

Here are the logs. I also installed avira antivir, I hope I didn't do that too early.

It's a good think a insisted on getting your logs.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINNT\web\related.htm
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINNT\web\related.htm

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

I got a message that the registry was successfully added. I followed all of your instructions. The cpu seems to be more responsive and running with less lag and the winreanimator and braviax screens don't keep popping up. Here are the logs.

    Thank You.

Looks much better. It appears that I may have removed something that you may have installed. Do you recognize the below as something you use?
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\fxsgts
    C:\Program Files\fxsgts\Arabic.dll
    C:\Program Files\fxsgts\ChartFxArabic.dll
    C:\Program Files\fxsgts\ChartFxJapanese.dll
    C:\Program Files\fxsgts\fxtraderup.exe
    C:\Program Files\fxsgts\httpasyncerrors.txt
    C:\Program Files\fxsgts\Japanese.dll
    C:\Program Files\fxsgts\Patterns.xml
    C:\Program Files\fxsgts\Persist.xml
    C:\Program Files\fxsgts\Scheme.xml
    C:\Program Files\fxsgts\Template.xml

I think that those files are associated with a program that I already removed. I don't need them.

    Great!!!

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop & renamed it like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\cf" /u
        • Notes: The space between the cf" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\cf folder from combofix.
    2. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    3. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    4. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

All done. Thanks a lot, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been able to do that without your help.
