Ran all the steps listed and I'm still having probs. They started about a week ago after I had been checking the internet for mortgage refinance rates and info. My home page has been hijacked to zhaodao123.com (site is in Chinese). Prior to performing removal instructions, about 5 Chinese sites auto-added to my favorites list every time I got online, Chinese pop-ups, and icons added to desktop upon start-up. Post removal, still have hijacker, but haven't experienced the other probs (yet).

Had a hard time downloading and scanning initially, computer would go to blue screen indicating a prob was detected & Windows needed to shut down to prevent damage, disable BIOS memory options caching/shadowing, stop: 0x0000008E (0XC0000005, 0X805BFAA0, 0XBAA0FA90, 0X00000000). I didn't know what to do with that, so I just kept restarting computer and following your directions. Eventually, scans started working and computer stopped shutting down. On Spybot scan, computer stopped at 118104/133091 win32Qhost.ake and would not finish the scan (tried several times). I did delete the 8 Sogou detected up to that point. I'm assuming the attached logs indicate all of the other probs which were deleted. If not, I wrote most of them down.

    Re: Malware Removal Logs

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

I see you have all of the below installed. Which of these are free trials and which are paid versions?
    Spy Sweeper
    Spyware Doctor 5.5
    Sunbelt CounterSpy

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.zhaodao123.com/?h
    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - MRI_DISABLED - (no file)
    O9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Spy Sweeper and Trend Micro Antivirus are the paid versions I was using prior to this problem arising. All others are free downloads installed within the last couple of days. I forgot to mention that I have been unable to remove J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0. When I hit remove program, I get a message stating fatal error during install and I haven't been able to find any way to remove it. So, I just moved onto the next step and downloaded Java from your site.

I'll let you know how everything goes tomorrow, thanks.

After dragging CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe and it finished, the box stated it was rebooting Windows...please wait, please allow ComboFix to reboot the machine. However, it never rebooted, I waited forever. I finally just turned the computer off. When I turned it back on, I received an error screen stating Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\system32\config\system, you can attempt to repair using original CD-Rom. I ended up running system recovery from the hard drive.

Unfortunately this may have happen due to shutting down while ComboFix had various system files open.

    Is everything okay now?

I haven't had any signs of the previous probs so far. The computer is running slower than normal however. I want to do things right this time, so I thought I'd follow the instructions in the forum titled "setting up a new computer".
