I have had some malware on my Dell Inspiron laptop for a few weeks now, but non of the anti spyware software you suggest comes up with anything wrong.
The problem is, the sound volume goes down or is muted and it tries to access 'my documents' and tries to 'log off'.
I have tried all the steps on the website, but non of the have seemed to resolve the problem.
Can somebody help me remove this nasty critter.

    Regards
    David

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to attach the below logs which were also requested whether they find anything or not. We do not ask for a HijackThis log. Please attach the logs from the below scans:

    • SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Malwarebytes
    • MGtools
Also note that your problems may not be due to malware.

As implied in my last message, you sound problems do not appear to be malware related so you will have to post in the Hardware Forum about them. However you do have a little cleanup to do.

First I suggest that you uninstall Windows Defender since you already have spyware protection from Ad-watch, AVG, and ZoneAlarms Spyblock. In addition, Windows Defender is not very good especially in Windows XP.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - *{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {DBC80044-A445-435b-BC74-9C25C1C588A9} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E7E6F031-17CE-4C07-BC86-EABFE594F69C} - (no file)
    O16 - DPF: {8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93} -
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0015-0000-0006-ABCDEFFEDCBA} -
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0001-ABCDEFFEDCBA} -
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0003-ABCDEFFEDCBA} -
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0005-ABCDEFFEDCBA} -
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0007-ABCDEFFEDCBA} -
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0015-ABCDEFFEDCBA} -
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-ABCDEFFEDCBA} -
    O23 - Service: RLRACDYNO - Unknown owner - C:\DOCUME~1\DAVIDS~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\RLRACDYNO.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it has expired or need to be updated to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Also delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\David Sanderson\Local Settings\Temp

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

I still have the same problem with the sound and its still trying to access my documents and tries to log me off. I have recently bought an Iphone 3gs. Could it have anything to do with that software conflicting with something else?

    Regards
    David

You did not run ComboFix how I instructed you to run it using the CFScript.txt file so you did not get the fix to work. You simply ran ComboFix.exe by double clicking on it which is not what the isntructions stated. Also you did not shutdown AVG. You need to run the fix properly.

Problems like this are more likely hardware or driver related. You should post in the Hardware Forum about this.

What do you mean by "it"? Whay is trying to access My Documents and when does this occur? What is trying to log you off and when does this occur? Do you mean "logoff" or do you mean reboot? Do you get error messages of any type? If so, give us the exact word for work error message. Again this may not be a malware problem based on your logs.

Don't know for sure. You could try uninstalling it and see what happens.

OK, I have now run Combofix as requested and attached.

What I mean by 'it' is, I presume to be Malware. What happens is the cursor has a mind of its own, opening programs and documents at random and 'logoff' the current user at random, also turning to sound off or mutes it. There are no error messages. Its as if somebody is controlling my laptop remotely.

    You're logs are clean.
Almost everytime we see a complaint like this, it is one of the below problems
    1. Bad mouse. Try another mouse.
    2. On a laptop a user is not keeping their fingers of palms off of the touchpad and is causing the movements themselves.
Unlikely to be malware to begin with and since your logs are clean, it is more like to be a problem with your hardware, drivers, or software you are running or something you are doing.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
