I am trying to diagnose a problem with a friend's laptop. It is running Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). It has some virii on it and I was not able to remove them. I tried to update and run Avira Antivirus Free Personal Edition, since it was already installed on it. However, it only got to around 60-70% of the scan when it caused the system to reboot. At around 10% of the scan it di find 6 detections and 2 warnings. The last detection it found wais some sort of "Java" virus (according to the name displayed next to "Last detection").

The problem I'm having now, is that it is no longer booting up. I keep getting the following error:

I only have an option to for "ENTER=Continue" or "ESC=Exit"
I've tried both "ENTER" and "ESC" and it just loops back to this error.

Before I can continue with the Malware Removal procedure, I need to be able to boot it up. I don't have a Windows 7 Installation disc. Any suggestions?

What's the make and model of the machine?

Most have a recovery partition accessible by tapping a certain key on boot up. Usually it is hidden and can only be seen in disk management.

That key varies by make and model.
