ok - it all started with avg telling me i had to upgrade to version 8 - tried to but kept having problems -so decided to switch to avast

uninstalled avg - i thought - then downloaded avast

also downloaded comodo boclean and threatfire

upon installation of avast, the siren went off and it had found a virus which it recommended i move to chest - which i did

(if you could tell me how to copy what it found in the post here, i will because it is now hard to see as my display is now all blurry)

after installing all 3 utilities noted above, i restarted and my pc has not been the same since -

all of the display is now blurred even dos -

i tried to do a restore it to no avail - still blurry

avast has found 4 more viruses since then

and avg is still running despite downloading revo uninstaller to try to get rid of it all since it would not go

    please help

i have hijack this and will post log if you request that and i also have combofix

    i have windows xp - sp3 - ie 7 -

was using adaware anniversary 8 but uninstalled it as i found it rather useless - still remnants of it kicking about too

used to use spybot search and destroy - still installed - but have disabled teatimer's resource hog

    now use malwarebytes/superantispyware/eusing reg cleaner

if anyone can help me figure this all out, i would be most grateful

    thanks!:confused

    hi tim

    will do

one problem i am having is that it is so blurry it is very hard to see - i am magnifying it up to help

also because of the remnants of avg - i get an error message when trying to runcombofix saying tho shut down avg - whihc i have tried and tried to do by uninstalling with revo as well as attempting to do it with run msconfig startup - nothing works

in any case, the thing i still have to do step wise is the renaming of hijackthis folder which i didn't do on initial download - so will uninstall and reinstall doing that

also any advice re running combo fix when i can't get rid of avg initialization error - also happens everytime i boot it up

shouid i just tell combofix to run anyway

thanks for your help - will get it done this eve as my computer is quite unworkable

    just read through everything again

i actually don't see a requirement to post a hijack this log unless i missed something? there are so many pages and links to follow all fo the steps, it can get confusing

maybe i picked the hijackthis log thing up from another help site

so all i have left to do then is to unistall malware bytes then reinstall in the folder suggested

    then mgtools

    have done everything else

will then run those tools and post

I am not sure what your issues are with the instructions. They are quite clear and concise.

Run Combo despite the warning. Then attach the resulting log.

We dont want you to run HJT, we want you to run the C:\MGTools.exe and attach the C:\MGLogs.zip

We also want you to run both MBAM and SAS and attach those logs. Why do you think you need to uninstall MalwareBytes? It should have been downloaded to the C:\ drive and run from there. The same with SAS.

thanks tim for continuing to respond to my problem

and no no problems with the malware instructions - it as just that with a blurry screen, it was difficult!

in any case, my problem is now resolved

for some strange reason when i downloaded avast and uninstalled avg, and then avast found a virus, my monitor somehow reverted in device manager to a default monitor as opposed to a plug and play monitor - with my ati drivers, the result was blurriness

finally discovered this and remedied and now all is fine

so i can think we can close this thread and again thank you so much for being there!

    :wave
