Try our standard malware cleaning procedures.

    Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

OK, I have read everything and will go through ALL of the steps. I am unable to get into properties from the my computer desktop. The Icon just fades, then the same Gockgb32.exe appears.

If you cannot right click on MyComputer to do disable System Restore, try the below.

Click Start, Run, and enter msconfig and click OK. On the botton of the msconfig window that comes up, click the button that says Launch System Restore and when the next window comes up you should see a link on this Window (normal on the left side under a whole bunch of text) that says System Restore Settings Click this link. And then check the box to Disable System Restore.

I have had to reboot twice just to type this. I followed your instructions with the same result. After entering msconfig off of the start menu, when I click ok, there is about a one minute delay. At that time, I still receive the same Gockgb32.exe error message that says it needs to close. You have made this simple enough for me to follow, I owe you dinner so far. It simply is not working. I have tried this from both users on this computer with the same results. Also, when the computer decides to shut own, I get a blue screen with more information. Please let me know if you need this. Thanks again !!
Oh, I take it that msconfig stands for misconfiguration, well, at least I'm learning

Does this also happen if you boot in safe mode? Boot in safe mode and try to disable System Restore. Otherwise just leave it enabled and continue with the other steps and let's see how far we can get.

This is no info on this Gockgb32.exe file. If it appears in a Task Manager process list (or better yet a HijackThis process manager list), you could try killing it as soon as you boot the PC.

I'm not booting in a safe mode, frankly, I do not know how to. When the problem started, I contacted WOW(thought thier server was down). They said to just unplug it from the wall. This worked for about a week. I'll have to have instructions on that for this computer. This is a home/business pc that was set up when I lived in Florida that is currently operating from Illinois. The whole configuration is very unfamiliar in comparison to my business computers that were used for construction estimating.
Thanks again, we'll stay on it.

Instructions to get into safe mode are also given in the READ ME FIRST at the beginning of the cleaning section but I'll repeat them here:

How to boot in safe mode: To boot into safe mode, restart your computer and tap the f8 key (after first black and white screen, but before the Windows splash screen) until you get to a black and white screen asking you what to do. With Windows XP, 2000, NT, ME: Use your arrow keys and select "safe mode with networking support".

OK, I got it. I will print all of this out for future reference. At the moment I have somewhat of a crisis in Louisiana to deal with. As does everyone else. Thanks again, I will return soon.

Thank you, I did get into the advanced options menu, went to safe mode with networking. It makes me the administrator. I rebooted from the menu which helped speed up the internet a bit. With my limited experience and lack of time, I'd rather just call someone in to do this. I know all of you have the experience, but this is like going back to college for me. Do you know anyone near zipcode 60120 who would provide this service ??

    No I do not.

Just post a HijackThis log from normal boot mode if possible. Let's see what you got.

See that's my problem, It takes me forever to figure these things out, If I asked you to read a blueprint, you would most likely be lost on it. You guys have been awesome, but I don't have the time to figure this out. I don't even know where to find the log. I'm going to bring someone in to do this for us.
I'll be more than happy to buy you guys dinner via credit card though.
    Thanks for your help

Well actually I can read blue prints just fine. In fact I used to even draw many myself in the old days when I worked in construction.

This is not that difficult. Many novices do it every day.

If you ran HijackThis the log even come up on the screen right in front of you and when you save it, it saves it to the folder where you ran HijackThis from.

The instructions for downloading HijackThis and installing it were in my first message (see message # 2).
