I've been using spysweeper for years and love how it works. I like all the shields. Unfortunately, there is always something that can get through any protection you have.

You are going to have most people here skewed heavily in favor of the free apps that are out there and available here at MGs.

I think if you are using something and are happy with it and you don't care if you have to pay for it, stick with what you have. I've switched my AV and Firewall because I hated Norton. I now use Comodo and Antivir which are free. I am still happy with Spysweeper so I've kept and paid for it.

    It's personal choice.

    HI Marlene

To be honest thats an answer that cannot be fully answered, no one application works the best where malware is concerned, too many variables, like regular dat updates, are they accruate at scanning fast is not always best, then security of a PC is more in the hands of you and what you download and what sites you surf, practice safe surfing, keep operating system upto date, have a core set of security apps and our "how to protect yourself from malware guide" in the malware forum is good advice, and only download from known sources, and that last one rules out p2p.

But for me I agree with LauraR, use what is best for you and what has kept you safe, so with your current security applications and your sufing habbits have you been protected? if so then I see no neeed to change.

    Free doesnt = Best protection
    Paid doesnt = Best protection

I have been using the same apps in Avast for antivirus, windows vista firewall, windows defender, spywareblaster and malwarebytes as backup malware scanner for a number of years and been *x-fingers* safe and malware free.

Good sound advice Halo - common sense types of things.
Also - avoid clicking E-Mail links (oldest sage advice everyone knows it - but... ) as they may not point where they look to be pointing.
Don't know how much hate I will receive on this - but.
Avoid Peer to Peer free anything - you may receive a payload with that whatever file or app.
I recently started using WOT (Web of Trust) downloadable through MajorGeeks, as recommended to me by oma and evilfantasy.
You would need to download the FireFox and Internet Explorer versions separately.
WOT shows Green, yellow, and Red, in search Engines - for links that are safest
(dark green), to bad rep (dark red).
