Hello, Yesturday I decided to get rid of Windows and switch to Mandrake Linux, which I know very little about. It seems to be installed ok Im useing Gnome GUI for the windows feel until I learn more about command line commands.

I am trying to install Bittorrent , I downloaded the file bittorent-4.20.6-1-python2.4.noarch.rpm

I double clicked on it to install, and I get the Gmessage "Im about to install the following program.. blah blah.. do I want to Install it or Save it"

When I click install it, it says some package request cannot be installed : bittorent.ect.. (due to unsatisfied python-psyco) do you agree?

then I click ok and it doesnt do anything.. is it allready installed? if so where is it?.. lol

and what is a .rpm file is that like an .exe?

or is it a source code that has to be compiled into a working program?

also any good recommendations or links for a new Mandrake Linux user?

    thanks!

The opensource BitTorrent was written in Python but it requires specific Python Packages to be pre-installed. Do a search to find a version of Python-Psyco in an RPM that goes with your version of BitTorrent. Alternatively, there are also Java-written versions of BitTorrent that might work for you. You could try the BitTorrent client Azureus. :)

OK you'll need to make the .sh file executable. You need to do the following:

    Open up a Terminal
Navigate to the directory in which your file is in, for example
    Code:
    [goldfish@goldfishbox] ~ $ cd downloads
    [goldfish@goldfishbox] ~/downloads $ cd downloads

Now you need to chmod it. To make things easier on yourself, type the first few letters of the filename (remember *nix is case sensitive!) and then press tab. The +x means "make this executable".
    Code:
    [goldfish@goldfishbox] $ chmod +x someFileYouDownloaded.sh

That should complete the filename for you.
    Now, simply run the program
    Code:
    [goldfish@goldfishbox] $ ./someFileYouDownloaded.sh
