    Friends,

My notebook [MSI PR600 or Enpower 16372] started acting up. I grabed an external drive, but it went down before I could plug it in.

Monitor stopped, and most of the rest of the lights turned off. However, I did notice two lights. So I checked the manual. [see picture of parts ]

According to the manual the first light means that the system is still active. :confused[See picture of part 7]

The other light shows that battery is charging.

None of the other lights are working.

I tried an external monitor and nothing happened.

The ON/Off does nothing. Nor do the other buttons near it. [see picture of part 4]

I don't know what to do with a computer that is broken ON.

I would really appreciate your geeky advice,

When you press the power button do any of the lights flash quickly? Are your fans running?

With the computer on hold the power button down for 5-10 seconds and the computer should shut down, then try to boot it up again, post the results.

Pull the power connector from the computer,do any of the lights turn off? If so this would point toward your power supply functioning,if your fans aren't running and the power light doesn't turn on or off when you disconnect the power supply it could be dead,in either case remove the battery and try to turn it on with just the power supply connected.

    No
    No

    No, nothing

The battery had fully charged so it was not on any more. The only light that was on is that Active system button. It stayed on.

Miracle of Miracles - It booted up - it was cranky, but it did it!!!!!

    Wow, You are marvalous!!!!!

Ok, so now that means it is the power supply is dead? or is the battery dead?

While it is running back up your data incase it goes down again.

Try shutting down, plugging the battery back in and booting. If it does boot up again I would suggenst that it maybe went into some sort of hibernation and would not wake up. By disconnecting the battery and power supply you effectively pull all power supply to the pc and hard power it down so it boots again. It may be there is nothing wrong with anything.

If it fails again with the battery in then it suggests a bad battery though I am at a lost as to why a bad battery would cause your symptoms

Well if the computer was in front of me at this point I would test the battery and PSU with a multimeter to check the voltages,if your tech savvy that should be your next step.

    There are three possible configurations

    PSU+battery= won't start
    PSU alone =Starts
Battery alone=???? If this doesn't work I'd suspect the battery,if it does work I'd suspect the PSU because the PSU is under full load when the computer is in use and the battery is charging,it may not be able to cope.

If the battery has shorted internally it may be drawing too much current from the PSU causing the boot issue or the computers safety circuit could have simply kicked in.
