Wonder if this university student spent a night out in London, because if he/she did, he/she would have also found that 99.999999999999999999999999% of people on a night out in London, are just there for a good night out, a curry, and a quicky, with whom ever be on their arm on the way home, to be followed by a visit to the doctors the following week for some kinda STD they have picked up, then it's back out on the raz the following week ! :-D

What a muppet! Hasn't studied London very well has he/she, and if he/she was my student, they'd have been getting the old :wave you've failed !

Been married to my lovely bride for 43 years so it must have been ...
    Love at first sight!
Marriage is not a 50 - 50 proposition. If you both don't give 100% it is not going to work!

He could have spent some time to actually get to know people instead of analyzing them. I don't think that this will ever come close in importance to the string theory, even if strings are a bust!rolleyes:-D

You’re right there…”String Theory” has had fairly intensive analysis in comparison. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superstring_theory

Wish these bright minds would look at finding a cure for the common cold instead… <sneeze…cough>

Dunno…maybe your partner was the “1 in 285,000 chance”? Wonderful either way that you got such a match!:)

Guess that’s the difference between a theoretical and practical study…Wonder if the theory “practice makes perfect” would apply in this case?:p

Dunno. In my case, some guys I’ve known were on a different planet most of the time…so reckon the odds are probably the same in those instances:-D

Aw, no...don't give up...you'll be missing out on all the fun of finding out if you've got a match...nothing like testing theories and getting some practice:p:-D

I hate the drake equation its stupid and subjective and so is this, the probability math is good but the reasoning for the numbers entered into to formula is silly.

The title is also is stupid you'd have to meet 285 000 people before falling in love,I've spoken to easily as many as six girls in my life and I fell in love every time.

Nice to see you on the forums again Legalsuit:)

Thank you for the congrats. Ours is the "Unconditional Love" as she has been bedridden with Progressive MS for the last 2 years.
I retired early to take care of her and to make sure she doesn't give up. Quitting is not an option!

    G'Day Rikky!:wave

Don't know the "Drake Equation" (never been a numbers person, much less formulas).

Re the "1 in 285,000" number "on a given night out" chance, Rustyjack made the valid point (wickedly with tongue in cheek:p), to consider a real night out.

Lifestyle is also a factor to consider with the analysis of people contact - which would vary the numbers, including type of social environment (how conducive to meeting people) and venue type. Contact numbers can then increase exponentially.

For example, last weekend at our Sydney Festival First Day (thousands attended), moving around crowds, meeting/speaking to strangers and friends at/during different events in an 8 hour period, my contact number went well over 200.

No, I didn't meet that "special someone", but I made a few new acquaintances and friends.;)

So I guess that "285,000" figure depends on how it is applied/interpreted.:)

    Cheers

    LS

Oh, I'm so sorry, what a beautiful relationship you have. No, never give up you never know when a miracle will come along.

I can relate, sir. My wife has MS also, early stage. Congrats to she and you on the 43 years, and good luck to you both for the future.

    :-D Actually, that's what I've thought of some blokes I've known/know:p

On a serious note, yourself, Born2golf and your partners must be very special people:)

I don't think i've met 285,000 people of the opposite sex in my life on one night out, and i'm only errrrrrrr 21 again :liar:-D !

Like I mentioned earlier, depends on "type of social environment (how conducive to meeting people) and venue type."

Now, I'll bet had you been here in Sydney last Saturday night for the opening day of our festival season, then I'ld bet you would've met 285K females...easy!:p

Well, there's little doubt that there are numerous good, (no such thing as 'perfect', save in the recesses of one's mind), matches out there for almost anyone. But the question is, as alluded to in previous posts, whether your circumstances bring the two parties in contact for sufficient time on order to get to know one well enough for any further upgrading of relationships, so to speak.

Then there is the inevitable case that both parties are attracted and available, but you know for whatever reasons, that close friendship is as far as it is wise to go. And nothing wrong with just good friends, either.

Guess I appear to be a little alien, or even "out of this world", to some. Then again, people that think that of me, I probably don't know/like well enough to care whether they like or understand me or not.;)

~ Some people, when they visit me at my place, think it's cross between The Adams Family and The Twilight Zone. LOL

True…sometimes contacts can be like “ships passing in the night”, but then, simple contact can/may occur as it did with Born2golf and become a special relationship. Maybe chemistry needs to kick in to make things happen.:)

Yes…sometimes circumstances may dictate how relationships progress…sometimes ethics and integrity dictate.

It would be a pretty boring world if everyone was the same. Look around at the variety of types of couples in crowds…some can look “alien”…and then clichés come into play, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, “horses for courses”, “different strokes for different folks”. :p Seriously though, when you look at many such couples' faces, they appear comfortable with each other's company, their faces radiate happiness.

I still remember your layout description of your place in a post…it sounded somewhat like the “absent minded professor” type of abode, or that of a busy bachelor. LOL
