hi i'm new here. really informative community! here's my problem. i purchased a maxtor 3200 with the hopes of putting my music (itunes) and digital pictures on it. i suspect that these two chunks of data are slowing my dell 4600's performance. i installed the drive with no problem but i really dont know what to do next. i guess my question is, how can i use this external drive to increase my computer's performance. any help would be great...i really dont know what i'm doing. thanks a lot! confused

With the drive plugged in, right click My Computer, click on Manage. Double click on Storage, double click on Disk Management. In the lower right pane you'll have a list of all drives connected to your PC. Scroll thru the list until you see the external drive. This will tell you if it's formatted and active. If it is formatted and active, just right-click the folders you want to move and choose Send To > and then choose the external drive from the Send To list. If the drive is not formatted and active, right click on the bold print for the external drive and choose Initialize. Let it do it's thing and follow any prompts. Then right click in the white area for the drive and choose Format or Create Partition and follow the prompts. Then you're ready to use Send To as shown above :D Good luck and let us know how you get along!
