Mcafee Help

To anyone out there who can help me. I've got a trickey situation on my hands. A couple of years ago Comcast came into our region and took over our cable company. Along with all the other changes they made, they forced a security center switch over for online users. Comcast offers Mcafee Security Center, and as I had never used it before, I foolishly installed the program. At first everything worked well. Then after about six months installed, Mcafee stopped updating itself. After checking for updates (there were none), Along with typical software recommended troubleshooting advice, I made the decision to try uninsalling, then reinstalling the software. I have used Add/Remove Programs from Start/Control Panel, and I have also used their MCPR.exe on multiple occasions, both to no avail. Here where it gets trickey. Using bothAdd/Remove and their MCPR.exe, at this point they tell me that Mcafee is uninstalled, however, If I use Microsoft Security Center, it tells me that Mcafee Antivirus and Mcafee Firewall are installed, up to date, and defending my computer. I have tried deleting registry keys, and disabling the Starup services that I have found were still installed and running on my computer. No luck. I try to reinstall Mcafee, and the installation hangs, maxing out my system rescources, forcing me to abort installation with ctrl/alt/del. How do I completely, and forever get rid of this MONSTER on my computer?

My computer is a Dell Dimension 4500, 1.00 gig RAM, 2.00 gig Pentium 4 Processor. I run Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3.

There is (apparently) a new version of MCPR.exe called MCPR2.exe available from https://us.mcafee.com/root/MCPR2.exe. Maybe that'll do a better job.
