Granted, John McAfee hasn't exactly shown himself to be a member of the Mensa Society over the past few years. This time, however, he may actually have a point on how scammers may trick personal details out of people who are seeking health insurance:

(Note: I am starting this thread with the intention of discussing possible phishing and online scams related to The Affordable Care Act. Please do not let it degenerate into an off-topic discussion of the pros and cons of "Obamacare.")

Hackers don't put up websites they hack websites and they don't generally scam people out of money or setup fake sites with the intention of scamming people. None of that requires any hacking just the knowledge to setup a fake website and a criminal or fraudster who can use the personal information to obtain money.

I don't know why this inaccuracy bothers me, I guess I just hate inaccurate scare mongering especially from someone who should know better.:confused

But yeah signing up for a government program on a third party website is just asking for trouble. I've actually done this but I found the third party website through the .gov website so knew it was safe.

Surely the government website has links to various third party sites that run the program?

Seems Mr. McAfee wasn't the only one sounding an alarm:
