McAfee - Uninstalling Security Centre

Can someone please help? I am having problems trying to rid myself of Mcafee Security Centre.

About 6 months ago I installed Virus Scan 8 (and Security Centre along with it). It was working okay and I was quite satisfied with what it was picking up.

However, shortly after installing the new XP SP2 pack, Security Centre ceased to function properly and Virus Scan along with it.

One of my friends told me about Grisoft's AVG Free. I checked it out on his computer and it looked much better (and simpler) than McAfee. So I decided to uninstall McAfee. I asked McAfee how to uninstall Virus Scan 8 successfully, but Security Centre refuses to be removed!

(A)

Here is the script that pops up when I try to remove it from Add/Remove programs:

(1) "Class not registered"

Then I click "OK"

(2) "Uninstallation cannot continue because the McAfee HTML dialog component was not found on the computer".

(B)

Here is what pops up when I actually try to restart Security Centre:

(1) "McAfee Security Centre cannot perform the requested operation successfully"

Then I click "OK"

(2)"McAfee Security Centre cannot perform the requested operation successfully
Msg: object required
Url:mcp://c:\proga~1\McAfee.com\Agent\
Line No: 439"

Can someone please advise me how to get rid of this sucker?

Uninstall Security Center:
1. Right click on the "M" and choose Exit.
2. Click Yes to exit Security Center.
3. Right-click on Start | click on Explorer
4. Open C:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\app
5. Remove (delete) all .adf files.
6. Close the window.

7. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
8. Double click McAfee Security Center.
9. Follow the instructions to uninstall Security Center.

Thanks for the reply Steve. I had tried this before writing on this forum. I found one .adf file. I can't remember its name now. I removed it, but it made no difference whatsoever. Do you have any other ideas?

Do you think I will need to reinstall everything and then try removing it again?

First, make sure you have removed all the .adf files in the C:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\app .

If you just had one and removed it and still cannot continue with uninstall you can try the reinstalling, it might work.

Just make sure you are right about the .adf file thing, don't want you to overlook something so doublecheck.
