Just yesterday I unistalled my expired Mcaffee sucurity system. I am now running AVG free, Zone Alarm, Spyware Blaster, and AD Aware SE free. All are up to date and no problems at all so far except that Zone Alarm says that it does not detect anti virus running on my machine. AVG says its up to date and running. Wonder should this be a concern? Thanks you are all great! ironhead

I have heard of problems like this before.

Did you install AVG before or after uninstalling McAfee? And are you 100% sure that nothing from McAfee is still attempting to run on your system?

I installed AVG first, then Zone Alarm, then I unistalled McAfee with one hitch. Uninstaller told me that I had to remove all McAfee services before I could complete the uninstall. After not finding anything related to McAfee I finaly went to RUN typed services.msc. I found one file for McAfee and deleted it. I then finished the unistall with no problem. It said that the unistall had been completed.(windows uninstaller) I have a dell demension 4700 windows media . AS you can tell I am at best on the low end of novice but all of my learning has been from reading threads and answers from Major Geeks. my sysstem is running smooth as ever but I just didnt understand why the warning from Zone Alarm thanks' Ironhead

Your problem could be the result of not completely uninstalling McAfee before you installed AVG. It is never good to have multiple antivirus applications installed and this could have messed up the ability of your system security center to properly recognize that AVG is now installed. Also McAfee Security Suite contains a firewall which means you also had two firewalls installed at the same time.

I'm not really sure if there is a fix. You could try the below. But first make sure you have the installation programs for AVG and ZoneAlarm available.

    - Disconnect completely from the internet. Remain disconnected until told to reconnect.
    - uninstall ZoneAlarm and AVG
    - reboot your PC and delete any folders related to ZoneAlarm and AVG
    - Now reinstall AVG (reboot if it suggests a reboot)
    - Now reinstall ZoneAlarm
    - Now you can reconnect to the internet

    Is ZoneAlarm detecting AVG now?

Thank you very much chaslang ! I will follow your instructions and let you know the results. I also want to let you know that just because some people only show up when they have a problem, and then sometimes dont even reply to let you know the outcome of your advice. But I truly appreciate Major geeks and the massive amount of effort it has to take to help all these people. I am constantly reading most of the posts and quietly learning in the background! (I know, a typing course wouldnt hurt either)

chaslang, I am sorry to report that the above procedure left me with the same problem. There is no change. Since my security center says that AVG is protecting, am a right to assume that this problem is not to much to worry about? My machine is running fine as always. Thank you for your time. Unless you feel that I absolutely need to resolve this issue, I am going to foget it. As always thank you!

As long as AVG appears to be working, I would not be worried about it.
