me too, spyware quake

    I too cannot get rid of this. I followed your instructions except that none of those files were in windows/system32. Yesterday I ran that removal tool by itself in safe mode and it seemed to work until I booted this morning and there it was again.

    Did I mess things up by trying it without doing it your way? Now what, thanks

    OK, I might have gotten rid of it. I used a different regedit text file but I ran it before I booted into safe mode. The difference with this try was that quake wasn't running the whole time I was in safe mode like it was on the previous attempts. I thought it was weird that it was running while I was trying to remove it before. Anyway this time it didn't show up in normal mode. So we will see.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

    It would have been more helpful if you had attached the requested smitfiles.txt log. There are new forms of this infection that have just come out and I have a new fix (not in the sticky yet) that I'm trying out. I have no feedback on it yet. That is why it is not in the permanent sticky procedure. And when you say a different regedit, what do you mean.

    Well now I added the fix for the new form to the permanent procedure! The new form added some new registry values and a new DLL file named sivudro.dll
