media player help

I wiped my drive and reinstalled XP now I have everything back up but the windows media player wont play dvd's . I get audio but no video.
I am not good at real complicated operations . any help ?

 

Hi, you need to install a codec pack that includes the one for DVD playback. Klite is a good one for XP. Once installed Windows Media Player should be able to play DVDs.

You could try either the Basic or Standard version. The standard version contains Media Player Classic which is an additional player which you may not want to use or install. Both versions should give you adequate support for DVDs. http://www.codecguide.com/klcp_ability_comparison.htm

 

Thanks I downloaded Klite and followed all the prompts it installed ok but I still have the same issue. audio and no video any suggestions other than a trip to the landfill. Do I need to install some other media player ? I want to keep it simple and avoid too many steps just to play a dvd. Besides I am old and easily confused>

 

VLC will play DVDs on its own.

Klite should have installed the necessary DVD codec. I'll have to look into it.

But for a quick fix VLC will work for you.

Thanks for all the help. I know it must be difficult dealing with us and our 1d10t errors but I did manage to get it to work there was a problem with my monitor settings.
