Media Player Software For Large Collections

I need recommendations for a media player for a huge music collection (over 180 gb) on my network storage folder, yes it has good a connection speed. I have have tried the basics and have checked out others, but I don't want to have to compile or debug anything to just play music, I have enough coding work to do.

 

There are a large number of Media Players, and many many codec packs. Maybe say which ones you have tried and don't feel are suitable then we could suggest others.

Windows media player (it freezes up)
itunes has more functionality but is irritating and also freezes up.
Winamp too much too grr. freezes up.
have checked out a bunch of stuff online but it all seems like I have to compile something or it has a hardcore list of 8 million add-ons or plug-ins to install just to get to any of the oomph of the basic installations of itunes or wmp.
And yes majorgeeks is my go-to place for stuff and things.

Windows Media Player works better with Advanced Codecs from shark007.
VLC Media Player and MPC are both excellent.
It is really for you to test such players.

 

Okay. Question: why would advanced codecs make a difference when I just have too many files?
